Get it and add a beeper

This is expensive but just get the whole damn thing - I'm sure you other Mk.1 guys know that replacing the entire "something" always works out a million times better than fiddling with it for two years. Somebody on the forum pointed out that they added a little 12V Radio Shack beeper which has been terrific in reminding me I've left it on - despite the little green light at the end of the stalk doing its duty yet hidden behind the steering wheel.
