I think for that you need to provide some pictures of what the car looked like and the condition it was in so that others could chime in.  A shell of a car would be one value however a running and driving car would hold another.  More informaiton please...

Take the bastage to court......not sure why this isn't yet ( maybe it is ) a criminal case.

I took a thief to court for stealing mini parts.....was found guilty hands down.

If you have the proof, you shouldn't have any problems.....shame it was/is a friend of yours though

Glad mine was a faceless thief at least ( a thief is a thief )

With regard to the value I would say it is easily worth $5K. Take a look at values in the Cars For Sale Section here, on Ebay and the Vancouver Mini Club Swap & Shop, it shouldn't be difficult to prove.

As of yet I know not who has it, only who stole it.  I do, however have a list of description matches i am looking into.  If I narrow it down enough I can have ICBC look into it as it would have been registered fraudulently.  It is less likely now that I will be forgiving towards he/she that bought it without registration.

So, here is the update.  Theft under 5,000 will not be charged as the limitation period is 6 months.   All he would have to do is convince the RCMP the value is less.  No charges as it was over 6 months.  However what I have receipts totalling over 5,000.  What is the value of a mini with no rust and all the before stated improvements?

Well there is certainly a more limited market in the US and Canada to shift stolen parts and cars than say here in Europe. It might be worth widening the net more than just on this forum. I suggest you send some details to some of the American based Mini and British Car Clubs, plus a photo or two. Ask politely if they can spread the word, it might help.

For example a guy not far from us (Somerset UK) had his beautiful concours Mk2 Mini stolen 2 years ago. He ran a hard campaign in the magazines, Facebook, forums, flyers at shows, emails, club contacts - getting the message out and asking for help. And give him his due, a few months of solid persistence he managed to get some leads and track the car down and get it back, thankfully intact.

Best of luck retrieving your own.

Pics are forthcoming... however there should be enough info to get a possible match to the car.  I am leaving certain details off intentionally so as not to allow them to be disguised once known about.  As for the vin..... I have it, but reckon that was the second thing removed.... License plate was first.  When i'm close enough, i'll know it.  There is not a mini owner on this forum that could say otherwise about their car.  Each bashed knuckle and curse about a rusted nut or headscratch about an electrical issue equals more attachment to your car.  It is a mini universal given.

However,  knowing mini owners are a close knit bunch and are always looking for parts, help and comradery (I belonged to the Fraser valley mini club in the early 90's with a 76 1000), the car is not that far, and the person in posession is currently thinking what their course of action will be as they have seen this post.

Sorry to offend you but you've left out vital info in the hunt for your Mini.  Dates, photos, names, VIN etc.  Vague info will not help find your Mini.

I'm in Maple Ridge.  I could do a looksie if you/or other get an inkling of where it's at.  Best of luck!

Not this time,........  After a long conversation with him.  (recorded) That is not the case.... If one seizes the car that person can legally own it by filing with a warehouseman's lien, or even through icbc.  However the car was not on his property nor has it tranferred ownership (which would happen under both scenarios)  I was not renting off him either.  He claims he sold it to recover money owed to him by his brother.  If there is another story or possible explanation, hypothesis, etc for the RCMP's handling of this i'd be open.  It is commonplace in BC for the RCMP to claim "It is a civil matter" thereby relieving themselves of work.

The Sutton family name should NOT be associated with the stolen Mini 1000, which is the subject of the thread.  There is no connection.  Fini.

I saw this old pic on the VMC site.....is that the one?

Mine was absolutely the same, except the rims.  And the paint scheme.  And it is strange it has brown seats.   I can't say that is the one as that is the wife/daughter of the President of the Vancouver Mini club and I would expect his sense of right/wrong should be beyond repute.  I met him once, seemed like a reasonable fellow.  I will check out nevertheless.  Thanks

Woah...I mentioned "old" pic.  ...lol
I know that's not the car now...just thought that may have been it several years ago due to the white colour and webasto etc.
