Hey John, why don't you leave it in the shed and send her out there to get something for you and see if she notices it sitting there.Do you have a light in the shed that she will have to turn on?.

Sounds great! ( each idea )
If "pulling over" with siren....make sure you don't get in trouble with the real cops.

Whatever you do...have a third person record it.

And this is why I haven't done it yet. I am on the fence, it could either go over really cool, or not so good... she is pretty afraid of police, and she doesn't "carry", but she is carrying our child right now.. about 7.5 months pregnant.  Still debating... It is interesting how she grew up, I have to do all the grocery shopping because there are to many choices for her in an american grocery store. So what say the Minimania crowd? Hand her the keys, and roll up the garage door, which would be nice, or pull her over. Or ride the trabbi into the front yard with the siren going? Thoughts?

My compliments also!  What we do for love.....

Before you try the siren and pull-over thing on her, Is she prone to flash-backs to "the old country"? You don't want her to frrrrrreak and precipitate a polizei chase.  Oh, and she doesn't carry, does she?

Thanks Ron, since it was a wagon, I had to get it since they are getting harder and harder to find, especially stateside. And I just love wagons! Spitz, I did get the old euro siren and played a sound clip to my wife and she said it was spot on. Lastly, they used the wagons and sedans for police cars. I did my own twist to it, like the door crest, and did not go to authentic with there color scheme because this is a budget fun car for the wife, and I think it just looks better. Originally it would have had a green hood, and green doors. Or rarely it would have had a two tone, kind of a army green lower half and beige/off white top.

Hopefully this Friday... I will pull her over when she comes home from work. I will try and video tape it with atleast a dash camera.

Looking good!
Were they actually used as police cars....were you able to find a European (older ) type of siren?

Made some progress, had my bud chuck and mike over Friday and we knocked out making up some new carpet, painting up the engine bay, installing the siren, and beacon light.... and of course the decals I drew up made by John S. Oh and lowered it about 3 inches. Check out that positive camber on the rear! Will be addressing that soon. Anyway here is the latest shot.

I like the cj750, was looking at a ural last week for a bud. Wife said she would never sit in the side car... so meh. Can't wait to get wrenching on this thing, just got 4 other Mini's and the Morris Minor to work my way through. Should keep me busy for a while.

Very cool!!! That looks to be in awesome condition!

My first Eastern Bloc car was a P600 (crossover with the body style of the older P50 but the same "big bore" drivetrain like your P601)

//www.fnader.com/scan0004.jpg

Since selling that one to a friend (who lost his P600 in  nasty divorce) I've also had a Tatra P603.

I'm still somewhat in communication wit the Trabie group in the US but I've very plugged into the UK group that is crazy over Eastern Block cars and in fact have made two trips into Chernobyl with them. Here is my visit this spring to one of their garages in western London:

If I can be of any help just ask!!!

Only Eastern European related thing I currently have is my CJ750: //www.fnader.com/CJ750.htm

So, how much did they pay you to haul it away?

Just kidding. Cool piece. Hope the spousal unit is surprised & happy with it.

After a 5 year search, finally found one in my back yard.... a Trabant 601 Wagon. Wife has been lusting after one for years, and that is actually how I got into Mini's. Now why would she want a car that is one of the top rated 50 worst cars ever made in the world... because she had one growing up on the eastern block. With that said, she doesn't know about it... yet. I picked it up and have been storing it in the back garage she never goes in. I am having John S make up some decals for me, and I have been tracking down the rest of the Polizei stuff to incorporate so it looks like one from her small village. Exterior wise pretty damn good shape for a 30 year old car in its original paint/duroplast.

Anyway, just wanted to share a pic if anyone is interested. I will post a few more when I get it done in the next few weeks before I surprise her with it and take her to the Spy Musuem for it's 6th annual trabant run. It's still got it's awesome 2 stroke 600cc 2 cylinder engine. Was a blast smokin down the block last Friday. Forgot how fun it was to shifter on the column... this thing is so bad it's awesome. Anyway else got some funky eastern bloc stuff?
