"we now return to our original program...."

emmaco (original poster) was asking about classic Mini instrtument bulbs.

For MK IV Minis - 2 and 3 pod instrument cluster in front of the driver - would this type of bulb work to replace the GLB 2123?

//www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/instrument-cluster-gauge/74-led-bulb-1-led-wedge-base/226/

(The listing is for a 1982-ish Jaguar)

At the bottom of the page are some similar ones.

Not having any spares around I can't compare. Can anybody shed some light on what would be best?

maybe sticking it in the cigarette lighter socket?

Nah. That just makes the light brighter...at least momentarily. It tends to curl one's hair, too.

I thought that one about how ya' hold yer mouth was a "Southern thing" as I hadn't heard it until I moved to the South. (Obviously the product of a sheltered life.)

@ Mous, thanks for the affirmation. I tried it once on my F-I-L's earlier model S truck and it didn't work, so yes, it's apparently somewhat model year specific.

there's a dome light button. You turn it on and off 3 times in a row and the DRL's turn off. Used to have to do it all the time going on and off base where you're required to turn off your lights on approach.

Also, there's a little heatsink wrapped around a resistor under the steering column. It's a black cube shaped heatsink. Just simply unplugging it will not require anyfunny button presses, and you don't have to pull the fuse which will disable your fog lights on some models. And on top of that you won't get any warning light on your dash.

This is what we did on our tahoe. Obviously this is subject to change on different years and models.

Back to the dash lights, when you get your bulbs in, can you please take pictures comparing before and after? I'd like to see if there's any "hot spotting" or issues with the LED's not lighting certain areas.

You know the way some people bite their lip or hold their mouth in a certain position when doing something difficult: My Dad usd to say "It's all in the way you hold yer mouth."

For anyone with a Suburban or Tahoe, it looks like they have a replacement for those pesky Daytime Running Lights that invariably overheat and melt the plastic as well.

Or you could just apply the parking brake on the first click which kills the daytime running lights but you have to look at a brake light on the dash.

Do they not have an "Easter egg" procedure to turn them off like the S-series pickups?

What is this "Easter Egg" procedure you speak of o great master.

Don't tell me there is an easier way NJ i have been riding around in my GMC for close to 10 years this way.

Google here i come.

And there it was in all its glory fuse #15 DRL and fog lights (which i do not have) so no problem removing it, now i have the DRL light on the dash still but no brake light. Thanks NJ.

Do a search on the topic. Towjoe has covered it before.

Does anyone know of a source to replace the classic Mini gauge instrument blubs (lamps) with LED equivalents?

Wouldn't mind one for the interior dome lamp as well.  That thing gets hot!
