I have a picture of the "King" sitting in B C's blue van

Maybe with his trademark big Stetson hat he looks 6'8 tall

BT W, after l got that pic, l forged Richards signature on it (shameless) and it said "To my friend Captin JJ" Well when Johnny got that he showed it to everyone in 3 countries, not sure if he ever knew the message was fake but the King was his hero

This Dave is more like what I remember . I do not remember him being any taller than me.

But BC has met and believe did some work for the king also.

(I don't wear cowboy boots so we might be about the same height)

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

I seldom question you BC.

Met Richard Petty at a car show in Columbus Ohio years ago.
He also sat next to me at the inaugural Brickyard 400. (Thanks Hal)
I don't remember him being that much taller than me.

I know about the van, just wondering if you're sure he was that tall ?

6'4 maybe, 6'8 ??? Are you sure Bill ?

I received word that you're interested in the R100's - nice seats.  I like them, think you'll like them also.  I've had mine for quite a few years now and they're holding up just fine.  I used the Sparco universal seat bases with the Sparco sliders as described earlier in this thread.  There's probably an inch or so space between the 'ears'.

The tricky bit is to assemble the seats onto the bases (snug, but not so tight that the inboard seat base 'legs' can't be adjusted), set both seats into the car and mark your holes.  Be careful that you don't drill through the battery cable, as it's right under the inboard RH base bolts.

If you have specific questions, you can normally find me on the RMF.

I have installed a pair of recliners from Summit Racing in a 79 Canadian mini. They come with sliders and are very large. When installed the shoulders are touch, touch, touch. I built custom mounts that attach in a std fashion. They are positioned very low and are really comfortable and high back head rest provides head support. I think they come black and biscuit. I currently have Newton low back half leather mid 80s recliners. While at 6 ft. they are not the most comfortable for me I have driven from coastal Va to Mid Ohio and back without issues. Son Alex will be driving soon and his mother wants head rest seats in anything he drives. We are lucky that we are both tall and thin so seat options are more open. Steve (CTR)

Here's a great older thread on seats for Minis >>> //www.minimania.com/msgThread/111381/1/1/front_seats_that_fit_a_mini_saloon

I had 1999 hi-back Camaro seats in one of my early Minis, (view thread). One of the seats was electric. Both seats fully reclined. The most comfy seats ever in a Mini! The only drawback was limited access to the rear seat area, (but a couple of skinny teenagers no problem!)    Mini Estate

I have a pair of seats from an early 90's Integra with a hollow headrest that I am planning on installing. The plan is to make a frame that will bolt into the standard mounting points, then attach that to the bottom of the new seats.

Interior? I don't need no stinkin' interior...

The seat of choice in our club is Honda CRX SI the ones with the hollow square headrests. The earlier versions fit perfectly. The later versions need custom brackets. For those that love music at their head there were the Fiero seats with built in speakers in the head rests. Most of the guys in our club are over 6 feet tall. Shorter legs longer torsos, so they are looking more for head room. Mounting the seats on the back of the crossbeams. Any seat 19" wide will fit without modifying the rear buckets. Some times you need to convince the rear buckets with a two by four to move ever so slightly towards the outside... Keith Has Honda SI seats in his Mini, the ones with the headrest from the side . I have 1983  stock Mini seats (recovered) in my Riley. So nice to have seats that adjust.

I used the Sparco brackets with sliders, and made a couple of steel 'stiffener' cross members between the 'legs' to ensure lateral stiffness, drilled some holes and bolted them to the floor.  Really tight fit, as those closest to the tunnel are actually slightly canted on the edge of the tunnel. An appropriate shim fittet under the doorside edge legs to maintain level and t'was done.  They are quite close to each other, and barely clear the rear companion boxes.  That said, I find them comfy.

My wife is 6'-3" - long legs, seats look like lil benches for her- has knee back circulation issues previously on commutes. Best seat we found was an Eddie Bauer Explorer that had nicer thigh extension bolster. Have been looking for a set of those too. 2 seaters are probably not in our future, next car may have to move seat back a little. She has a 2003 Honda Pilot now and hasn't complained about seating. I need big ass space, me stocky w short legs, I sit up straight and have issues viewing gauges at comfortable steering wheel angles.

My Recaro is similar but not as good, I bet Ford went to them when they did uprated interiors back then. Stay away from Racer seats, racer's are tiny horse jockey's, you should probably look for the WalMart of seats (no size smaller than XL) such as stock car or 4WD stuff. Just sayin'......

I've got Sparco R100 seats installed.  In my opinion, nice recliners.

The Miata seat slider brackets are normally bolted to the floor in a Miata, so you need to tie them together front and back. Mine have legs to support the rear and tabs on the front so they use the Mini seat attachment points. Couple more pictures here: //www.flickr.com
