I have several Minis, so parts sometimes end up in the wrong car's collection of parts and after many years of being dismantled, I can get confused as to what goes where. This happened when I rebuilt my hydro equipped '71 'S' last year and figured that it required the spacers that where with the front subframe. The center hole in the spacers proved to be too small for the hydro hose fittings to pass through, making it obvious on my car that the spacers were meant for my dry car under restoration. Randy

If the car is a 67' saloon and is fitted with a hydrolastic subframe there will be no spacers fitted between the frame and body.  The hydro subframe is taller in this area than the dry pre 76' frame so no spacers required.  An easy check to tell the difference between wet and dry frames in this area is the bolt diameter used.  A wet/hydrolastic frame uses a 5/16" bolt into the top of the frame (a flat surface), a dry frame is threaded for a 3/8" bolt or stud (has an raised flare around the threaded hole).

Has the shop done any other minis that these parts may have gone to?  If you did not notice them taking it apart - they are probably not yours.

Long shot, but paint thickness on the subframe and body?

Nothing extea stuck anywhere.  I have the subframe installed with the spacers between the tower and subframe.  Still seems like too few threads on the bolts, but the body tower is aligned perfectly with the subframe, with about a 1/4 inch gap nice and straight.

Check also that you haven't got solid (metal) spacers stuck to  the top of the subframe or underside of the cross-member.

Can you post a picture of the spacer you have? the Std spacer should not change the depth very much as it just evens out the subframe mount face above the lip around the top of the frame?

Yes, I could use a longer bolt, but, these are the stock bolts, and these bolts seemed to have sufficient "bite" when I disassembeld the car.  Interestingly these pieces never fell off during the disassembly, so I was unaware of them until now.  I have behavior now that's different from before, so I'm just trying to assure I've got them in the correct place

You could use a longer bolt but regardless don't over tighten .... the threads strip easily. Its a good place for thread anti-seize.

My '67 Cooper S is finally back from the body shop and reassembly has started.  A couple bits came back from the shop that I'm questioning where they fit.  They appear to be P/N 21A2341 Front Subframe to Body spacers.

I assume (from the name at least) these go on top of the subframe and fit between it and the "bulkhead" the subframe is mounted to.

However when installed, the number of threads the bolts go in the subfrane is reduced significantly (seems like only 1/4" of thread depth, which seems awfully small to me).

Do I have the location correct, and is the short bolt depth normal?

Thanks...   ron
