Thanks Al.  That reminds me of a signature line someone on the board here has:

"I am not a gynecologist, but I'll take a look" LOL !!!

Mike You keep this up and you could get a job with Canadian Customs as a Mini inspection specialist,

Although, if you choose this career change And want to keep working in the rear, then try proctologist, it pays more (Lol)

Having only one number stamped for the year is not uncommon, just lazy workmanship

Lurch,

Ya know I still have that Yellow Bini Hotwheels I won on Miniportal.ca back in the day.  ...and now~ a decade later I own the full scale 1:1 version of your car, only in Bini form. I place the blame squarely on you. (lol)

Anyways, yeah, maybe you are onto something.  It's certainly not punched in there very deep at all.  I guess it doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe if I was trying to determine if it was a MK II S or a Mk II regular ol' Mini, things would be different.  Or if I was passing it off as a Mk I S with Airbags and selling it on, LOL!!!

It's a real mish-mash of years...a real Franken Mini with engine, wheels, dash, interior, etc. from all different years so it matters not.

I was just curious.  I have been perpetuating the "check the boot latch date code" statement for probably a decade and when I finally checked mine, I was surprised.  Mine is actually behind some carpet, is why I had never seen it before, but I was curious and happened to have a Philips(not a Pozidrive) screwdriver in my hand, and, well, I just had to take it all apart ! heh ;-)

Battery was nearly dead, so I couldn't even start it up and back it out into a muddy driveway still surrounded by 1-2' high snowbanks to get a breath of fresh air yet.  Maybe next week !

Cheers

hey Mike, apparently its common that all the numbers aren't punched evenly... perhaps it was 17 87 with the 8 not punched correctly??

or maybe its just not Y2k compatible, with the one digit for the year 1987

cheers,

jb

As I was hooking up my battery charger today, in anticipation of the retreat of glaciers in the area in and around New Brunswick, Canada I had a look at my boot latch date code and it said  "17 7"

Car is a well documented 87 (E -reg) with a long folder of paperwork.

Glass is etched with the plate # E355 PAH. Nothing in/on the car would indicate that it was anything other than an 87.

...and wiper motor is stamped 87

What gives ? I was expecting to see "xx 87"....pretty sure it's not one of the very early & rare 1907 Minis of folklore.
