Thanks for posting everyone, the info was great. I've had a bunch of these soaking in oil for a couple of years, just took a quick look, appears that I have some with the plates n screws in the bottom. Glad I didn't chuck em, note to self, dig really hard n deep before getting rid of a Mini, found em at the bottom of the door pockets full of crap, knocked all dirt away, there they were.

Spitz,

Thanks for induling my curiosity. I hadn't seen the latches without plate/screws so was mystified. Can see where modifiucation wouldn't work very well.

Thanks again.

The latch pictured fitted to the car does not have the plate/screws.  The two side by side are opposites but both fronts.  One with screws/plate...the other, same as fitted to the car....no plate

Definately not enough room for a plate......quite a tight fit as is.

Hmmm...not familiar with "later" latch. I have early latch for a 59 single hole window and another for a later window with two holes but it has the screws and plate on the bottom so I'm not much help and I'd defer to mousy. I would think you could modify it to the same configuration with some threaded screws.

Tsumini ( and others )

Referring to the pic you posted of the latch taken apart....mine does not have the plate and two small screws at the bottom.

An update.....I checked my buggered one and another.  Neither have that plate.  Instead they have a pressed in washer of sorts. ( the buggered one had popped out.)  Once it popped out there wasn't much holding the spring so the thumb piece fell out.
Could this be a later design of the chrome latch?

Thanks for that pic!  Seems simple enough.....with my luck I'll bugger a good one to fix the bad one...ha

I did have the button ( from the broken one ) in the door bin.  I almost had a good grip....but it dropped and fell into the nether regions of the door.  Will have to remove a drain tube and such to retrieve.

Lurch,,,thanks, will wait to hear

Hmmm...will look into that if Al doesn't come by one.
Is there a diagram out there showing the internal?

Exploded view of window latch. Happens to be a '59 single hole latch but the two holer has an extra tit in casting.
