From the 16v forum...

Having done a few of these conversions for my shop, the pedal pivot needs to be moved 1.58 inch upwards to achieve a normal feeling throttle (ie stock mini pedal movement. I also have made a bracket to use a stock RHD SPI throttle cable, goes right in the mini bulkhead and has the correct bung for the honda throttle body.

The one on the left is a OE LHD throttle pedal and the new one is on the right. The points are the same for the for pedal location, and mounting point, just the piviot point has been moves. The upper section is welded on to keep the pedal clear of the brake pedal as to not limit it's travel, (can still go all the way to the floor)

The other approach for the throttle is to modify the pedal assembly.. lengthen the pedal to pivot point and shroten to pivot point to cable connection..

Keep on truckin-- youll get into all those tiny detials as you move along and need to handle each and everyone.  I think any mod has a plus and a minus-  how much effort vs how much reward. With my local friend doing a D swap too I could send you an army of his pictures- projects headaches and accomplishments. All in good time tho if you need any direction hit us up.

Stock brakes are very adequate-

Stock Clutch mouting can also be used wiht a Honda Master  - with an adapting spacer  . Accords came with "remote Resevorir's " stock that are easy and tidy to mount all in the stock locatoin. Consider this route tooinstead of the whole pedal kit like above.

Do you have any Pick N Pull  Junk Yards around your area?   This was a great way for Myself to learn how things go and mount in a simple Civic- Or look for and see other cars in the yard for possible parts.

Best thing we found - Acceletor cable -  Nissan Maxima / Altima - ALl nissans seem to make their cables EXTRA LONG-   Get this whole cable assembly - and you can turn it into however routing you may need- Short n sweet or Long and around the world. Some say - STock cable - Bike cable but the Nissan cable even let us use the adjusting threaded end to the stock honda manifold, Turned out a treat.

Just ideas...

Solution to waiting....  time to get into a second hobby while you wait for the bild parts to come!

Bicycles! Thats the way to clearing your mind..

Keep Truckin!

And my Mini Marcos kit car...there are how many of those in the 'states? I had to go into mine having no clue if my fat ass would even fit inside. I just figured that when there were problems, I'd need to fix them. and I'm getting there. Yeah, I'm a year slower (and counting) than I'd hoped, but I'm making progress, and that's good for me. My car is all new parts (except a few I could only find used), and I had made a spreadsheet of all the parts I'd need. I'm on track to come in within 10%  of my original budget.

I dislike that people are so judgmental and rude here. There's use in critical advice and warnings, but after that, we're all adults and can decide what's right for ourselves, and the personal taunts, counter bets (which aren't in a lighthearted tone), etc all bring me back to grade school. There's a big difference between "this is a big project and will cost thousands more and take 2x as long as you expect" (which is useful and largely correct advice) and some of the replies here.

Well said.

about the pedal set, I have read that on a few build forums that the pedals didn't live up to expectations and were difficult to get used to. ill be holding on to my original brake set up till I figure it out but initially ill start with them and make changes later if they don't work for me.

on the throttle I read about how one guy modified the cam, link Is below anyone try this and still use stock gas pedal?

Everyone has their opinion, but damn... so many people pissing on 82's parade.  It's *his* Mini, so he gets to mess with it as he sees fit.

I hope the project goes well and he's happy with the results.

Next time I'm on the US West Coast I need to find someone with a Honda powered Mini I can check out.  It's still floating in my head that I want to do one.

It's funny that the only folk thinking it's a good idea actually drive a vtec. Too much power? I'm still waiting to finish my B18 type R Moke, so one day I'll know if too much power is possible. It should be do-able in the time frame, the conversion isn't as hard as everyone makes out, especially with all the info that's out there. Good luck and go forth...

Having built a few vtec cars, I would suggest keeping your stock pedal box, and making the intake fit around the Master cylinders. I dont like the feel the the wilwood/tilton clutch/brake pedals.  Also you need a new gas pedal so the throttle is not so on/off and I use a stock mini throttle cable with custom bracket for smooth operation with the stock throttle body.

FYI, go easy on cutting out the inner fenders until you see how much clearance you need. We ended up adding some back in after cutting everything out. The D series doesn't need quite as much taken out as the bigger motors, and those inner fenders are nice to have for stiffness and extra surfaces to mount things on.

well got started today, stripped everything out, dash, pedals, engine, sub frame, exhaust, shift linkage, wiring, pretty much everything.

tomorrow ill cut out the fenders and grill, and strip the metal back to bare and prep the welds for the shock mounts that are rusted out.

As for deadlines, they are very useful. I was making swift progress on my Mini Marcos kit car build, and between end of august and end of December, I got it mostly running. The goal was to get it running and registered (bodywork unfinished) by end of 2013, and I almost made it...but then lost steam when my van with all my tools was stolen.

But those 4 months with a deadline, I got far more done than I have in the 6 months since, without a clear deadline (things are picking up again, my new goal is to have it drivable this summer).

I was waiting for '61MiniMe' to chime in. I am much more inclined now towards '82Mini's' decision to move forward with the vtec conversion out of sheer respect for the one guy that I know that got it all right on all levels vtec. Good luck '82Mini'.      Mini Estate
