I thought the rears were Cosmics but I guess they're Mercury. The fronts are Cromodora Abarth (Abarth Cromodora?) - magnesium. I'm hoping I can get them tested and they're ok. If not I'm just going to clean them up and display them since they're so bad ass. I swear they're lighter than the tires that are mounted on them!
The Mini is now roofless and has been chopped in half. I pulled out the right gas tank. Gotta pull out the left. Got all the gauges. Going to see if I can grab the engine and go through it (AA engine). The rest is going to get chopped up and sent to the dump. Tropical Storm and Hurricane headed my way so I've gotta get it out of the yard!

And I thought my Rusty Red was bad. What wheels are those? Are they all the same? I have been looking for a set of 6X10 K&N Mercurys since I sold mine years ago. Steve (CTR)
PS when I pulled Red home I used rubber gloves and duct tape around my cuffs to pull all the poison oak vines out and threw a couple of bug bombs in for good measure.

You had better get a tetnus shot before you start cutting, that is one rusty Mini.

The engine and the car are in my yard now. In another week I'll have to take a picture, as I'll have another two early shells in there. I'll be Mini Spank or Spank West.
Spank West is totally the name of my next band.
If you want to be mini Spank, you will need to go get a lot more stuff!
Spank was kind enough to let me take apart an engine for the first time yesterday for Lemonizing.

And the H has nothing to do with compression. It indicates it is a transverse engine.
The first H is transverse engine, the second H indicates High compression.

So thanks to the power of 4x4 and a tow strap I've now pulled the (MK 2 Cooper S?) out from behind the tree. It's much, much worse in the light. Driver's side (LHD) A pillar gone, the wing in the same area is just rusted to hell. Floors are knackered.
I'm trying to pull it up to the street to have some folks help me load it into a trailer to take it to my house. Will probably have to just pull parts off, cut it up, and send it to the big rust bucket in the sky :(

That engine would be from a ADO16 AA

Hmm can't seem to insert an image from a mobile device. :(
Today I went to clean parts out of a Mk 2 car that I'm going to be bringing home soon. I'm not entirely sure I can save it, but I am going to try!
I've been trying to ID the engine today. I can find things that are similar, but nothing that covers the tag I've got exactly:
12H393M-H831
From what I can gather its a 1275, manual transmission and high compression. I haven't been able to decode the "393" bit. Things close to it seem to indicate a 1275 GT, but I can't find my number exactly.
The car it's sitting is a Mk 2 saloon. Twin tanks, brackets for a boot board. It has seen some pretty serious neglect, but I might be able to save 'er. Color under the rear window rubber sure looks like Almond Green to me.
Funny note to today- those of you that know me might remember the first two Minis I went to look at in 2002. This one is all of 5 houses away!
Theres another pair of Mk 1 cars at another location. I'll be taking them all and seeing what I can cut out from the worst. I'd really like to be able to save one of the Mk 1 cars and the Mk 2. The owner tells me he's pretty sure they're both Cooper S. Found some Abarth Cromodora magnesium wheels - never seen em in person before. They are LIGHT! Not sure if they can be saved but I hope I can clean one up for display, cool scorpion center cap and all.
I'll see about getting on my laptop tomorrow and lobbing some pictures up.
...now I REALLY have to get my 66 back on the road. The wife is tolerant, but if I have several non-running Minis (again) I might get yelled at!
oh - several 10" Hoosier slicks. Some even still had the casting marks in them. Too bad they're probably 20 years old!
