Steve thankfully where i am, machine shops are cheap! for a head job they charged me 80$ for a complete overhaul and that included cleaning, new valve guides, valve fitment, crack and vacuum test of the ports!

I have bought three 295s in the last year. I'm paying $150. for a head with or without parts. When you get right down to it they are not cheap to prepare. I strip the old valves, springs, caps and keepers. The hair pin keepers and the pins are out of date. I like to glass bead and crack check then soak in vinegar. New guides, type depending on the valves to be used. Hard exhaust seats installed. I use the the late 998 lead free valves with tripple groove keepers. Or O/S intakes and exhaust depending on condition of intake seats. For most applications you need to surface a ton off the heads for C/R. The shop I use charges $55. to surface .010 or clean up cut and $1 per .001 after that. I cut .100 or more depending on the job. The O/S valves are in the $25/30 each range so not all that cheap. I checked prices this week on machine work. The shop I use took a 25 percent increase across the board. First increase in 4 years. Does not help me at all. Steve (CTR)

IMO....for a finished ( skimmed or unskimmed ) 12g295 with valves installed....and preferably hardened seats in exhaust....$500 would be reasonable.
No valves....but clean and checked....$200 would be a good buy

Valves are cheap!  That head is getting rare... the best head for a performance small bore! That's the good news...

Unfortunately, it is a lump of cast iron, and it seems you must subtract the cost of shipping it from it's value for most people to be happy.  This is opposite of how most of the world works... Mini people are a tough crowd!

$150 maybe a little more, worth a lot more with the valves if you had them D.

Hey guys i've got an unskimmed 12G295 head, valves not included. Cleaned up with electrolysis, so no material has been removed rather than necessary. What should i ask for it?

thanks in advance
