I'm going to tell you one more time. That never happened, the person in question was jerking your string and you fell for it. I never got a crank, engine or anything else as a result of your thread. I can foward the threatening email I recieved yesterday form that person saying that same thing. I have told you before we should have been friends both served, both love minis, both have son's at the center of our lives and wives we could not suffer. It seems that's not good enough for you. You want to keep messing with me over a slight that never happened.

It would be nice if you admit you have never had any dealings with me of any kind. You keep talking about how I do business, I guess that's to hurt me is some way. I did ask that if anyone with drum brakes who wanted to clear them out I would pay inbound shipping and for packing materials. If you make me the same offer I will send every one I recieved right over to you. Never sold one single part from that exercise. I made the same offer plus $50 each for 998 power units. I recently sold the first cyl head from the 5 units that got me. That surely was a profit center.

Why would I bring up old stuff. Those who had to live though your last attack will understand my reply. Those who know nothing of the past would think me crazy. I'm ok with that, but I meet people like you head on. I tried, I ask if you didn't know the answer just don't reply. Couldn't let it go at that could you? If you want to keep going I have plenty more I can add. I'll forward that e amil to you, look for it. Steve (CTR)

To the board members I am sorry about this.

Steve, you are confused.  I have never begged for a free engineor anything else for what that matters.  The situation you have gotten confused about was that I asked if anyone had a 998 crank laying around that I could buy because my son needed one for his daily driver Mini.  The flywheel had come loose from the taper and caused damage.  Anyway, instead of a crank, someone came forward with an engine.  Before I could respond, you jumped in an took the engine right out from under my nose.  That was a cheap shot, but that is how some folks do business.  I took it personally though and shouldn't have.  As I have witnessed your begging for free brake parts, etc, only to re-sell them later, I should have known you have no scruples when it comes to $$$.  Now I have responded to your little fit of rage so hopefully that will be the end of it.  Besides, I don't know why you want to drag up old dirt when it has nothing to do with the thread I posted.  I still think it was in poor taste to "out" someone who may or may not have a re-VIN.  I know that re-VINs cause a problem when folks order parts, but there are ways of solving the problem better than what you did.  I think that first, you should have asked the customer certain questions to help decipher what he had.  If that didn't identify what he actually has, then the next step would have been for you to find out what the VIN number you have from the gutter relates to.  Speaking of which, as you have messed with Minis for many years, you automatically should have known that if it has a number stamped in the gutter it is at least a MKIV bodyshell.  In addition to that, our host has a very good article on de-ciphering VINs and IDing Minis.  You didn't have to expose anyone as having a car with 2 VINs and also include one of these numbers.  That was simply uncalled for.  I don't know why you think it is a personal swipe toward you that I brought this up.  I would have said the same thing if anyone else had posted such a flagrant post about someone's VIN on a public forum.  I also said that I think the entire thread from the original poster was increadibly stupic.

Now, as for the threat of kicking my ass at the next Mini Meet, I would suggest that you don't get stupic and try to do that regardless of your age, size, and your taking martial arts classes...it would not be in your best interests!

I have told you before if you want your ass kicked be a man and meet me anywhere.  Either step up or step back. I'm 65 years old, six feet tall and 165 lbs. With an eye toward returning to vintage racing I have signed up for a 1 year martial arts training program. I will be at next years Mini Meet and we will resolve what ever your issues with me are.

Pretending that revins do not cause a problem in suppling correct parts is what's stupid. If it's an 85 with a 85 title it's legal. Not doing my home work to confirm that with the vin number would be stupid. But I shouldn't have to tell you that.

Go ahead hide behind your key board and keep running your mouth. I have never met you, don't know you, but leave it to say I really don't like you. Steve (CTR)

Out of respect for Big Al, I edited a sentence out. For those who missed the begining of this dust up I'll fill you in. Years ago when BC could post here Hugh was begging for a free power unit. BC offered to sell him one cheap. When I suggested I'd like to buy one BC said he'd give me one before he would sell it to Hugh. From that point on Hugh promised to be my worst nightmare. He posted the most vile replies to each of my threads and posts. I as a result I left the board for over 5 years and did not attend any mini events. I so much enjoyed Mid Ohio I plan to attend to this matter and resume taking part in events. There is no need for a reply just be there.

I will comment on any thread I choose to.  You are not in charge.  If you don't like my comments then try not to post stupic stuff.  I will say it again, posting someone else's VIN on a public forum and saying there is quesionable heritage (another VIN for this car) indicating it is a re-vin is at minimum, poor taste.  But in reality, it is STUPIC.  Get it?  Probably not.

I did not ask for your opinion, I ask a question if you don't know the answer don't reply that's fairly simple. Steve (CTR)

not sure about Ss and 5s but said he got them correct. Thanks in advance.

Is it a part that would be different from say MK1 to MK4?  If you know it has an old style 998 engine, I can't see what the problem is if it is a mechanical part.  Surely the owner could verify what it is by asking about certain distinguishable items on the car.  I guess my real question is, why bring this question (or the original question from this link) to a public forum?  We all know they are out there...do we really need "the MAN" having us hand him the answers on a silver platter.  I just don't get it.  I know if I had a car with possibly 2 different VIN numbers associated with it I would be highly pissed if you or anyone else posted that (including one of the VINs) on a public forum.  Think about it...DUH!  I guess "BC" Gump's mom was right, "Stupic is as Stupic does"

Doubtful.  DAEK was high-spec '72 resto-mod in MkIV shell.  It was registered in California by Adam who bought it
