So sad for Robin and the family he leaves behind.  Sad that we still do not view mental illnesses/mental distress as real and in need of compassion, care and support.  It is not about the money.

I only knew Robin through his comedic and acting work.  Nonetheless, I wish I could have grabbed him and said, "I love you."

(I had a close family member attempt suicide and fail...thankfully, and we have helped a former foster daughter reach 50 years of age [so far] after numerous suicide attempts in her younger years)

I haven't been following the news for a couple of weeks.
So, this morning before most of you were awake, I walked through Heathrow. And, like most airports, there were TV monitors everywhere. I kept seeing Robin in his various roles pop up on the screen and figured either he had just won an award or was releasing a new film....
Wasn't until much later that I heard the terrible news.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at a comedy club back in the 80's. Conversation was mostly about the fact that we share the same first name. (Along with all the trials and tribulations that growing up with it brings.)

RIP Robin

Apparently he was being "treated" for his depression. That usually means that under a Doctor's care, some sort of anti-depressive medication was  prescribed. Ironically, one of the side effects from virtually any and all anti-depression med is suicidal thoughts. Go figure!!! Watch any commercial advertisement on the tele, and you'll know what I'm talking about. Mixing the meds with alcohol or other drugs only adds to a potentially lethal situation. He certainly wasn't in his right mind. The world has lost one of it's greatest talents. Sorry to hear this news.     Mini Estate

I'm with you dimitris...  If anyone thinks depression is not a disease... There's a photo from a 2-3 weeks ago with his 3 year old daughter.... Just how does someone with the wherewithal to buy an island or 10, that is so universally loved, who always brings joy and laughter- saw him on the Letterman show a few months back.... elect to take such a drastic and PERMANENT solution for whatever 'temporary' perceived problem exists.  How does one justify in his own mind taking that little girl's dad away from her?

I kind of think this sort of news is quite depressing for lots of us.... we ALL have problems and difficulties in life.  Most of us have to show up at work to feed our families.  If a Robin Williams can't go on, can't deal with life....  well, I find it quite depressing.

Completely tragic...I have been watching Robin Williams my whole life, he had always been my mentor(someone I looked up to) and his comedy was my greatest influence

Wow, at least have the decency to spell his name correctly.  A shame we lost such a great person.
