Just seems easier with a dolly, also much easier to load and unload, but I may be missing something.

My galvanized tow dolly weighs as much as my aluminum trailer. Tim Bosse made some Classic Mini specific tow dollys that were lighter but i don't think a MINI would fit on them. Most steel car trailers weigh probably 1500 lbs or more.

I appreciate the replies.  Will look into the suggestions that have been.  Have a 2011 Ford Flex with a towing capacity of 4500 lbs.  Looks like aluminum is the way to go even though more pricey.

Thanks!!

I've towed my minis for years with a dolly. My wife with hers and his(mine) MINI pulling mini. pulled all over the south with my MINI pulling a mini. Now that I have a rear wheel drive mini, towing it backwards from Miami Fl to Wytheville Va. Changed to 12' utility trailer. Just did miami to Fontana, NC.

I know a fellow whose trailer is a '10 Aluma with the 3500# single axle and claims it will carry his wife's new MINI and obviously his classic Mini. He has to angle the loading ramp quite a lot but it works. I tried to buy one, but by Sept. only the lower rated axle type was available as they had turned to snomoble trailers. 10' Alumas work well for my long wheel base Minis. Randy

Zippy!!! That is sweet!!!! I love that idear !!!!! I like the psare tire mount too, where'd you get that???  I took off my rear gate, is wasn't the folding type, and was too short to pull up the mini on, the exhaust rubbed badly. So far it tows great. I had a problem with one bearing, it wasnt checked by the factory or the place I bought it. Thanks for the info as far as the trailer.

I bought an Aluma 12 foot several years back. All up weight with the Moke is under 1800 pounds.

My only tow vehicle is a Subaru Forester. It's limited to towing 2400 pounds. So, an enclosed trailer was not possible.
Just had a soft enclosure fabricated. I should pick it up this w'end.

I guess it just depends on what you want to do , just haul a car , camp or ?? Several months back the wife and I were looking at different enclosed car trailers and got thinking ....it would be nice to be able to take a car to some of these car shows and be able to camp or have a place to rest/ sleep etc. What we ended up buying was an enclosed 18' toy hauler. Made by ATC in the USA, all aluminum , has a bed, sink, stove, fridge , shower , toilet etc. AND I can put a mini including a wagon inside. What more could you ask for !! Just returned from a 4500 Km trip to california and brought another car (And parts) home . Truck and trailer performed fantastic!! Look forward to taking a car to Portland the end of the month for the ABFM ....

18ft beavertail steel tandem axle trailer here. I wouldn't go enclosed, because you have to buy bigger when you add walls.

If/when I buy my next trailer, it will be an 18ft beavertail aluminum tandem axle with a winch and a rock deflector. The whole thing for me was that I could probably get away with a smaller trailer, but 18ft does everything for me. I can haul stuff other than cars. I can haul just about any car out there, and I don't have to worry about it being too small. If there's an emergency with my wife's car I can go get the trailer and pick her up, etc.

Here's my current rig.

This is what pulls it along.

My main trailer is an open deck Trailex double axle aluminum with 9 foot ramps weighing less than 800 lbs. I like it as there are no welds everything is bolted on to it so if anything breaks it is easy to replace. Owned it for about 10 years bought it used and i just went through it replacing bushings, upgrading to LED lights, new wiring, installed a winch and new tires so it should be good for another 10 years at least. I have and still own several different trailers (don't know why they just accumulate) but i prefer the aluminum over the steel as they do not require the paint maintenance and can be towed by smaller vehicles due to the lower weight. The only negative i know of is they are not the cheapest when compared to steel trailers.

Just bought this, an Aluma aluminum trailer, but I will be hauling only a classic mini or a Triumph on it. Tows great. it only weighs 750 lbs.

Here are the specs on it. //www.alumaklm.com/single-heavy-axle-utilities/item/15-7814st-utility-trailer.html

Since you indicate a MINI is to be carried as well as a Mini, you will need something with about 3000 pounds carrying capacity (possibly more depending on which MINI model). That requirement would tend to direct you more to a purchased. At that rating a tandem axle would also tend to be recommended. From there it becomes personal preference for open or enclosed.

If considering an open trailer, a smaller option might also be a tow-dolly that would accommodate either car. One of those would likely be less expensive and easier to store.

I have begun the search for a trailer to haul a Mini and a MINI.  What are you using:  open or enclosed, steel or aluminum, single or tandem axle, purchased or fabricated??

This would be used for one car at a time.

Thanks.

Jim
