Honestly, I would try to get the electronic gauge working. They are more reliable if you have a good one. The electronic gauge probably doesn't have a good ground. Your unit relies on the sending unit's body for a good ground.

Thanks guys. That would explain why I have TWO oil gauges (only one, the non-digital one) seems to be working accurately.  It's not bugging me terrably at this point, but in a couple of weeks when I want to go through the engine and re-wire some things "better", I'll get rid of them.

 

Oh, and good advice on the picture statement, viewing it in another tab. I might put that on the bottom of all my posts from now on.

 

Oh...and I WAS looking for a missing alternator bolt.....

It's ok. All the extra weight they gained with the extra switch they saved on the missing alternator bolt.

I agree with the information above and the advice.  You really only need one oil pressure gauge and the oil pressure light if you want it.

Footnote to pictures in general.  Thankfully the two pictures above appear on the "left" side of the text field.  Have you ever noticed that sometimes people manage to get a post on the "right" side of the frame and when you hover the mouse pointer over it... it enlarges itself, moves to the left, then once it's no longer under the mouse pointer it shrinks?  If you can stay over the image long enough, right click on the image and in the dialog box that opens you can opt to open the image by itself in a new page... at least when using Chrome.  That image in a page by itself is often much larger than what you can see on the message board.  The two pictures above have a lot of detail you can see better when the images are on their own page.

Yes, the cylinder that has 1 wire attached in the first picture is actually not a sensor. It's a "sending unit". Might be semantics to some, but this unit senses oil pressure, converts it to an electrical signal, and seems that to an electronic gauge inside the car. 

The second (and first) picture shows the factory oil pressure sensor. It's the cone shaped piece with one spade  on the tip. That triggers the "dummy" light on the factory dash.

The braided line is connected to the engine  at the oil pressure "hole". From the factory, the cone shaped oil pressure sensor would be threaded directly into that hole on the  and none of that other stuff would be present. The other end of the braided line is threaded into the "distribution block" which is the chunk of brass that everything is currrntly threaded into. 

The other solid tube is a capillary tube. It is basically a pressure tube that should be connected to a mechanical oil pressure gauge. 

The whole thing is just sort of ghetto. Haha.. A tube clamp and a piece of angle iron holding a cluster of random stuff. Lol. 

My recommendation, unless you really need 2 gauges and a dummy light, would be to pick one gauge  (i went electronic) and thread that directly into the block. Get rid of the other clutter.

1. Oil pressure sensor for gauge ( looks like what Porsche uses on the old 911 ), the other sensor (your fingers are on) is for light.

 

2. Old school tube type oil pressure gauge (add on)

 

How many types of oil pressure gauges/lights does this car need ?

 

This must be one of dem fancy racin cars !

 

Does this car have an Accusump accumulator ?

Can anyone help me identify these two items? They appear to be sensors.  One goes straight into the engine (front), and one has a windy type wire all the way around it, and dissapears into the firewall, and appears to be carrying some type of fluid?
