The mini engine / gearbox unit is about 300 lbs, give or take a manifold or two.

Car engines make CO2 and trees absorb CO2. By running your engine you're feeding a tree and helping the environment.

I may be able to help with transport if sold out of state. IF the car is road worthy of a trip.

Feel free to email me [email protected]

Give it a whirl but I wouldn't hold your breath.  Anything after 1975 must be smogged, which means you should be able to get it registered if you can pass smog...BUT as a car that was never officially imported to the US, your model will not have smog standards in CA's computer database, which makes it impossible to smog.  There IS SUPPOSEDLY a process to get cars that aren't on the list smogged, but from what others have said it is not financially feasable.  Buy hey if you of figure out a loophole then please keep us up to date.

I'm talking to the referee center. I just might be able to get it signed off. I'm keeping all of the information because if I get away with it, I'll be sharing it with EVERYONE!!!
If I have to sell it elsewhere, that's not a problem. I'll deal with it. It's not like transporting a Mini is that difficult.

As a true 1989 you won't be able to sell it to anyone in California if they want to try and register it there.  You might sell it to another GI who can register it in their home state.  Other than that, buyer/registerer must be outside of that wonderful state of California.  I don't think you will be able to get it smogged, but even if you do I don't think they will allow it to be registered.  Good luck with the sale.

Well, I've posted here a few times and have always gotten some help, so I'll do it again.

I bought my 1989 Mini Mayfair in Naples, Italy and have owned it for a couple of years. I'm actually looking to sell it, but I don't know the market here. I'm in San Diego, CA and I'll be able to sell it for the most out here. It is currently registered and titled in Minnesota, but I am working on getting a California Smog Referee station to sign off on it so I can get it sold. Here is the info on the car.
Mayfair 998
Both front hub assemblies (including ball joints, fresh cut swivel, bearings, ball joints, steel braided brake lines, etc. whole 9 yards)
Origional engine with fresh rebuild. Port/polished head. HS4 carb.
3 spots of surface rust and a few dings.
ZERO thru rust. Bottom of the car is SPOTLESS.
Push button start. I know a lot of people will hesitate about this, but electronics is my job. I have installed a full relay based ignition system. It starts every time without hesitation. It really is a proper electrical install. It has also allowed me to add a PWR ON and ACC fuse box under the dash. It's not for the vehicle operation, but for things like the stereo and cigarette lighter. Whatever you want to do.
3+3 dash with high accuracy gauges. Oil temp and pressure, battery voltage, O2 sensor (not connected yet), and coolant temp.

I don't know what else to put on it. It's in great shape, I just don't know the market in Southern California. Any tips on how much I should ask?
