opening the gap on these porcelain tipped plugs helped today. I'll check the fit on the needle and see if I move it up a bit if that helps. Also will advance the timing a smidge. One mod at a time.  My brother's S used to snap my neck in every gear.  Not that I want to do that, but would like that kind of quick throttle response and acceleration on this ride.

headrests?  very funny.

Run a compression test and report back. What you have being cheaper than what you want, the 1 1/2 twins will help. If not electronic check dwell and advance. Steve (CTR)

Head rests ???

Most head rests on early mini seats , fit between my shoulders, so what good are they ?

I always take them off when l re-upholster my seats

just my preference

Forgive me for the following Mike but I saw the 'neck-snapping' title while reading pros and cons of using headrests, I took mine out.

Just read on a Miata forum about how somebody had seen a vintage Plymouth stopped at an intersection with a civic or something very slightly smushed behind it.  The couple in the Plymouth had both their heads tilted back and jaws agape.  Yuck.

So back in go the headrests.  OK sorry to post that, I had some wine.

This is a cheap tweek; I just posted that opening my plug gap by about .010 (or until it misses) just gave me a heck of an improvement.   But this is using a bigger coil.  It idles much better and smoother as well.

And interestingly enough I've seen on other classic car forums that if you can burn better the way a larger gap allows, you can still run a little rich and thus cool.  And indeed there's less black stuff on the back of my car.

Got a 1300 with a 1 1/2" HIF. Looking for that neck snapping performance with basic tuning tweaks.

It's got a large stainless rc 40. 2" I think.

Ideas?

Timing and valves are correct. Maybe I'll advance the timing a bit.

Wondering if I might try the twin 1 1/2"s I have.

I believe it's a metro lump and likely stock inside.
