Just wondering. I know the Midas kit cars were just that...a kit car, but wasn't the Midas Gold usually powered by the Metro motor? Could anyone tell me if the attached pic is a Metro motor or a stock 1275?? I have been toying around with buying a Midas...and really not sure about what I am getting. Is there any definitive way of telling?
And has anyone had any experience with a Mini Midas? Any thoughts? Opinions?
Any input would be appreciated.
Cheers!
It may be an MG Metro as it looks like it has the HIF 44 installed. There is no real outside mechanical difference that i know of between a normal Metro 1275 and a Mini 1275 with regards to fitting each other, although on the Metro there is a bracket on the clutch cover which is usually removed when fitted to a Mini. Get the engine number off the block and research it through this site it should narrow it down for you.
My advice Mike if you want a kit car Midas or any other one is drive it first they do have some quirks which some people are fine with and others hate although a well built kit built up by a competant individual is a decent car.
If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

It is a 1275 head....not sure if it's possible from that angle to tell if A+ or not
