The plates are a crack up since they can't exsist until next year!!!

That's when CA DMV will reproduce the black & yellow plates including personal plates like on this Mini.

The bogus part is that DMV will allow you to order these plates to put on any vehicle not just a 60's registered car which is just wrong.

It's almost over the $40K benchmark.  But IMO, this one should set a new US standard, white roof notwithstanding.I wonder if the bids are US customers...and what's the reserve??

I also wonder if Mr. Gilcrease knows a Mini Law of Nature has been named after him...

GF creeping up, now at 0.7275 with time to go. The original former 'Gilcrease' S on which the GF is based rose to $30,200 before the auction was cancelled by Brandosan who sold it off Ebay for $40K.

Chuck,

Check me on this.  The dealership in Texas was probably Overseas Motors here in Ft. Worth, as they were one of three BMC distributors in the United States.  Overseas sold to 41 dealerships in 10 states and ran a successful racing program for many years.  Richard McDaniel was the general manager of Overseas and also twice National Champ in his Purple People Eaters.

I too have a March '64 1071 that was a "customer delivery" LHD, originally green/OEW roof.  It was later resprayed all white...

It's been here in TX all this time, hardly any rot.  But in 10,000 pieces.  Why does everyone take them completely apart, then lose interest?!?

Hope to put it back together in the next year or two...

Chris

Over the years a number of monotone Ss were made, starting with the 1071s. A few of the monotone 1071s came to the U.S.. I had an all white one. Rumors are that a number of monotone 1071s went to a dealership in Texas.

I was under the impression only MK III S's were available monotone but according to the Heritage certificate this one came that way.

Ah...good to know.  I had read only the Works cars had the combo

"WET COOPER", Partsguy1 (Terry Snell of Penticton BC ) - Could you send the money for the unpaid parts and court fees.

I agree Spitz, as a UK built Cooper S it should not have red with a white roof.
However, I would point out that many 1275Ss were factory built in Oz with this colour combination. So it is incorrect to say that NO factory Cooper S had it.Wink

Don't like the red with white roof.  No factory S's for retail had that combo AFAIK...should be black.

What is this gilcrease thing?

Yup, I'm absolutely loaded! Soaking in a hot tub full of $100 bills at this very moment. 7 years of unemployment does that to you, ya know.

I may have to buy it just so I can take the plates and then resell the car. I've apparently got a 1071 with Shell 4000 Rally history that those plates would look very nice on.

Looks like a clean decent original LHD S with a lot of originality and should do strong money, the wheels, roof and other minor mods done by the owner are easy fixes if you feel that way inclined.

Just observations! Not crticisms. Observations. (Except maybe the white top and chrome Minilites.)
