Hi Kevin,
Try spraying wd40 on the shifter shafts where they go in and out of the shifterbox.
And on the shifter ball

Kevin:
Do you need to shift between 3rd and 4th very much?
Did the centering spring come with the shifter?
If you added the centering spring, how did you determine how strong it should be?
You are working against that spring every time you shift gears.
If you need help finding 3rd or 4th gear, get a weaker spring that is just strong enough to do the job.

My Mini is now back on it's feet and running beautifully, BUT shifting thru the gears is like stirring wer cement.
I am running a JKD 5 speed box that is in perfect shape (recently overhauled) and I have a centering spring to keep the shifter centered on the 3/4 shift position.
The shifter is also a JKD product that has a metal ball instead of a nylon one, so I don't think the ball is deformed due to being overtighten.
Any ideas?
