This person has done some work to measure wheel weights. I can confirm that the OEM 13" Sportspack wheels are very heavy (but well made, probably to avoid warranty claims for bent wheels.)

I wish I didn't have tyres on my 6x10 Mercury wheels....I'd like to weigh them, they are incredibly light

It looks like the subject has changed to the nightmares of magnesium.

Anyway, if we could get people to way the different wheels they have, I'd be willing to make a simple website that lists the wheel (with picture) make, model, dimensions and weight.

I just need some help from the Mini community.

Andy,  I don't know what brand the wheels were but I had to have a set of lug nuts built and then had the wheels powder coated.  Mistake.  They out gassed and bubbled everywhere.  I had to strip the powder coat with wallnut shells. PIA. And then if I recall we preheated to keep them from gassing on the next go around. They were the coolest looking wheels, kinda like a Halibrand like on the old Cobras.  I just so ever lightly touched a wall and that party was over.  $$$

Also, as the story goes there was a Maseratti that was all mag back in the late 50's.  There was a fire that couldn't be put out and all that was left of the car was parts of the engine and some gears.  If I recall there was even some sort of ban on pure mag wheels at some point back when as flats would cause fires that couldn't be put out. Ah, the good old days...

That's probably why they make aircraft and such out of the stuff.  And why Minilite chose mag alloy for their somewhat successful line of competition wheels.

If you ask, they can still provide same for your Mini (just send $$$).

Cheers, Ian

Kerm, I recently picked up a set of very cool magnesium 10" Abarth Cromodoras. I've had enough folks warn me that I'm just going to get them cleaned up and use for display either on the wall or somethin' like that. No road use for those wheels.  They are light as hell though!  I swear the tire weighs more than the wheel.

Magnesium, especially aged mag is very, very brittle.  Touch anything and they fracture in a million pieces.  Been there, done that.  I won't even sell the remaining 3 unless they are for a coffee table or whatever... or not.  I don't want anyone to get hurt.

Revolution 6 x 10 wheels are approx 3.5 Kg or 7.7 Lbs according to //www.tyresave.co.uk/revoroad.html.  I got curious as I just bought a used set of these and mounted American Racer tires for autocrossing.

Interesting.

Out of curiosity, what would  similar 12" and 13" rims weigh in at?  And how would steelies compare?

The classic mini is a go cart.  Very limited wheel travel, primitive suspension, and crazy loose when driven fast.  A few ounces or even pounds on each corner just doesn't make any measurable difference.

If TireRack can why not MiniMania?

Mamba's are or used to be one of the lightest road wheels for a Mini. There was a thread a while back with some wheel comparisons mentioned.

Thanks Bochinam.

It'd be awesome if we could get data like that on all the common mini wheels.

Others here would know better than I, but I don't think there's some killer heavy wheel out there destroying people's handling.  This may be related to the 12/13" vs. 10" argument perhaps.  But then the tire profile is smaller on the larger diameter wheels so the weight's probably the same.

You're safe ordering anything here, all this stuff has been used and vetted for decades.  They don't sell crap.
