I guess at the end of the day it does not matter. Don't put your info out there if you are concerned someone will know. My reason for liking to know who I'm talking to is so I can tell if they are close by or on the other side the earth with an American flag. I have bought and sold parts to people in OZ, NZ, SA, UK Spain and Japan. And a guy who lives just across the river. Not asking for your last name or you SS number.

JFK, thanks for the info. If you have been here for years you recall when just about everyone had more than one log in and even had fights with them selves on the board. As for my true colors call it as you see it. When someone attacked me  every time I posted calling very unpleasant names and saying things about the way I do biz. when they have never stood in front of me or had any dealings with me. That went on to the point I left the board and did not post for over 5 years. When I came back the same guy suggested we bury the hatchet which I did. Then to call me stupid for asking a question about a vin number. No I'm not going down that road again. I have loved and played with minis since I was a kid. I'd like to think I have helped a few people. I know I have met some of the nicest people in the world. Like any group there are going to be a few you just can't hit it off with. When I realized BC and I were not going to get along I quit responding to his post and dropped mine when he posted. Same thing with QS and Hugh. My daddy told me as a child don't go where you are not wanted son.

As for the GF thing I have watched CC work that into one of the few interesting threads on the board. I feel the board is at a low spot as for posts that hold interest and bring out a good cross section of the hobby. Of course how many times can you explain the same thing and make it interesting for all? Steve (CTR)

You know Steve, I'm not sure why when I click on SXSMAN, edit profile that it shows my name (Jonathan Klein), my location (Columbus Ohio), but doesn't show when clicked on. It also doesn't show Central Ohio Mini Owners.(although I can see it) If you can help, feel free to offer so I can make this right .

And you may say " No disrespect intended " , but how you convey your thoughts into words comes off differently at times. I think on the thread "How to title my 1996 mini" you flew your true colors for all to see. You have knowledge, insight, seem to want to help others if you can, and you have other things to offer, just check your emotion before logging on. Or read what you wrote before hitting submit.

Yeah, I know, you didn't ask my option, as a courtesy I thought I'd offer.

Best to you CooperTune (Steve),  jfk

PS, email addy is in profile, feel free to email me.

I think most people get overwhelmed, but in all honesty with some research and if you have the money it's a simple build for the install itself.

I drove mine around town recently with the front end off to a friend's house to have it welded up and it was awesome I would never go back.I am not too familiar with minis but for me I plan to cruise it not track it,and mess around a little with racing street/strip.It only is a d16 but once I get the LSD and the alignment right I have more plans.

Some of us may not want our last names on here. My husband and I are law enforcement so we want some sort of privacy. If they guy doesnt want his name out there who cares. Its not that big of a deal. I have been on this board since I got my Classic when my husband got back from Iraq in 2010. I lurk dont post a lot that doesnt make me any diffeent than anyones else who has tons of posts. Ask MalSal we have been around Minis for years and he knows our Classic and us.

Okay, (anyone even spell okay anymore ? or is it ok) I did a Bing search on GF for meanings, glad you told us. I was scratching my head.

I get G for Bill Gilcrease but what's the F factor ?

(I want to be with you young hip kids !)

Seriously , what the F is the F for ?

It was used by Cup Cake to describe a nice restored S that did $32k on ebay which CC thought was a lot of money and maybe that high due to the Bill Gilcrease involvemnt in the build. After the auction was pulled or finished (can't remember which) the owner posted here that he sold it for $40k and since then when a nice S comes up for sale CC guestimates the Gilcrease factor using the $40k Gilcrease S as a benchline.

At least that is the way i perceived it and if any of this information is incorrect anyone feel free to correct it.

This might be helpful to those thinking of a Vtec swap. I bought a completed car that was built by Minitec back in 2006. The car was showing 12k miles. Turns out it was their first customer car.

It apparently was "run hard and put away wet" and driven by a teenager whose parents eventually took it away from him and put it away for a number of years. When I bought the car last summer, it was obvious that it was poorly maintained, with the most obvious being the suspension which didn't seem to ever have been greased, the floors caved in from jacking, disconnected vacuum line so it would idle etc. The major things it needed were ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks, newer lower arms, wheel bearings, one cv-joint and a thorough alignment especially more pos. castor. I think that even a stock mini that has the 13x7 wheels and not maintained would have needed these repairs. I've put 3k miles on it and use it every day. I would drive a converted car before buying one just as NJ used to recommend. I've taken it on a couple 100 mile trips to Carlisle and find it a blast. Luckily, I was able to do all the work myself so it hasn't been the money pit it could have been.

I think the points Steve makes are valid. If someone goes into a project and isn't really sure how they want it to turn out, it could become a money pit with no clear end in sight. Not saying that how I did it is the only or best way, but 6 years on and I'm still driving and enjoying my car. I did TONS of research, while driving and using my car in the stock form, then when I made the decision to drop the hammer and get it done, I had a firm picture in my head (and in Photoshop) of exactly how I expected it to turn out. I was prepared for cost overruns and had someone doing the work for me that I was confident could deal with problems as they arose. Yes, it cost more than any sane person would have spent, it's worth it to me and I have no expectations of ever selling it.

Gilcrease (sp) factor cup cake is using on listings of restored Cooper S's. There are a few threads relating to it.

I'm not sure if it's the money or a change of heart. In the 60s I got to drive a very nice Cooper S. The next week I bought a non running 850. When I got it running I was a little let down. It only took a couple of years before I had a very nice Cooper S also. Fast forward to 2000 and I was building a 1000E to a fairly high std. Ran out of money and left the 998 in it. Ended up driving that combo for 87,000 miles. I have now installed a 1360 Cooper S engine and very trick gear box. It's very fast and burns a lot of gas. I'm kind of over it now and long for my old 998.

I have only agreed to do one vtec. The customer ordered the extended front and the front end lift package. I stripped the shell and removed the steel front. He then ordered a Z max body kit and didn't like it and ordered a better kit. Each time we talked about the vtec kit he was talking about the next step up in power and this and that. He got deployed and hurt and the project was no longer important. Due to his injuries his family has ask I sell what I can to pay my labor and for storage. They can not find title and he can not help with that. He is now with family on west coast and car is east coast. If you want a body kit, an extended nose with the trick springs, S racer red steel spring kit with the hi lows. There are a few other new bits I'd like to move along. I have offered the shell complete with interior doors and trunk lid to a board member. If that falls though I may offer it to the board. There is no title and I'm not sure I'm going to spend the money to get one.

I guess there are different reasons people fall out of love. Steve (CTR)

Or is it that you only notice when VTEC's are being sold?

Funny because I've been wondering why so many GF cars are being sold lately?

Is it because the fun is in the building and once completed maybe they lose interest and want to move on to another project?

Is it because they totally underestimate the build cost and want to cut their loses once they get it running?

Is it because they become annoyed driving a car with no air-conditioning, heating or stereo (in many classics)?

Is it...
