I found some in bags that I had marked and I measure no difference between the two. I am using a Harbor Freight micrometer, so it may not be accurate enough to measure the difference if it is small.

So if I measure them I should be able to tell the difference. I have some that I did not write down the part number on the plastic bag they came in.

Also the different Mini vendors have conflicting info on what can be used here.

What does inner and outer refer to and there is mention of thick and thin by some vendors:

Vendor A

Thin driveshaft circlip for outer c.v joints. See 22G2688 for the inner pot joint circlip.

Vendor B

Wire Clip, CV Joint (22G2688)
Circlip found in groove at the outer end of the diff output shaft on 73-on gearboxes and outer end of axle for cv joint. Secures the CV joint to the shaft. Sold each.

Minimania

Circlip Axle To Outer And Inner Cv JointsPart No: 17H8596

Thin driveshaft circlip for the inner on main drive CV joints

Along with what Kevin stated: one is for on the output shaft of the differential for holding the pot-joint on, the other is for either end of the drive shaft to hold it into either the pot-joint or outer CV joint.
