So it looks like you have a remote shift engine and that may be why the previous owner did not reinstall the right front lower steady.

There is a rubber connector and bracket on the end of the remote where it attached to the floor when the remote shift is used.

So the two types of shifters are remote and rod change.

The first picture in your latest post is the differential end of a "Remote Shift". There is a housing containing the shift rod mechanism that attaches there.

In the second picture, that is a rubber boot. It is part of an "oil seal upgrade" kit for the "Rod Change" shifter where it exits the differential to run back to the shift lever.

The left side one, like Chuck mentions, was on both 77's I've had and I think both 78's....so factory fitted.  These were CDN cars

That's the first of the mounts I mentioned.

The aftermarket one that fits on that side, MSSK on this site, is more effective if you are thinking about a change.

For a while there was a factory mount from the front subframe cross member to the clutch side of the gearbox. Not much use, but better than nothing. Only appeared on some of the rod change cars.

Some Australian Minis had a factory upper mount from engine to firewall on the radiator end of the engine.

I remember a factory lower mount on the radiator side of the engine for rod change cars, but I don't remember which cars it was used on.

Minis with a remote gearbox had a mount at the shift lever end of the shift housing that acted (very well) as an engine mount.

There are two cushioned "motor mounts" that cradle the power unit into the front subframe - one below the radiator bracket and one below the clutch housing.  There is also a dogbone mount between the firewall and the cylinder head just above the flywheel housing on the rear of the engine.  These, I believe, are the standard "every mini has these" mounts.

There are "engine steady" kits that will add additional dogbone mounts between the transmission case and the lower bottom of the front subframe.  I believe there is also an engine steady kit available that mounts between the firewall and the front of the engine near the water pump.  These engine steady kits are all aftermarket add-ons that significantly help lock the power unit in place and prevent rotation under load.

Hope it helps

how many brackets or engine mount does your mini have? ( the one that attaches the engine to the car.

is it suppose to be 2 or 3?
