I was thinking along the lines of ZPH. But MGravina if your carb on your 998 is fitted with a waxstat jet (see below) it could be your problem. If you do a search on waxstat you'll see the recommended replacement.

CNN type "speculative news"
It could be one of those fuel injected airbag cars carrying the identity of an older Mini 1000. [rolleyes]

Hope we didn't scare the original poster away. We really would like to help. But it would be easier with a bit more information.

CC, just poking fun at both Canadian posters. I would have used one of those little silly faces, but they're all stupid.

In my defence, all I can say, after being put-in-my-place, is a Mini 1000 does not necessarily have a 998 motor.

more information is needed to suggest a solution to this problem. When you say that twenty minutes later the car does not start, is it that you turn the key and nothing happens? Does the starter motor make noise but the engine does not turn over? Is the starter working and the engine is being turned over but the car simply does not start? These subtle degrees of difference would indicate different but common problems. Part of the issue is that your knowledge of cars is still growing and your ability to describe an issue needs to grow as well. We are here to help with all of that.

also, pay no attention to cupcake.

Since it starts and runs its not sparkplugs or the battery. The difference in the starting scenarios is the engine is warm whem it won't start, so the problem could be related to heat. I'm gonna guess that your car is not a 1980 but a later fuel injection car. Most running problems with EFI Minis are caused by cracks and splits in the elbow connectors of the vacuum lines to the ECU. I think the temp sensor is also attached to the ECU on an EFI Mini, so since your problem seems to be heat related maybe the temperature sensor is not working properly. I don't know much about EFI Minis but there are people here who do.

Hi, I have an Austin Mini 1000 and am having some problems with it. The car starts up and runs after sitting for a couple of hours however after turning it off and letting it sit for maybe 20 minutes the car won't start. Could this be a simple problem with battery or sparkplugs or something more severe?
