The Almond Green looks great too!  And would be accurate for a '68 S...

Thanks to all of you guys for the great advice and the pics.  I guess you are right, it's my car I should just do what I want.  I've always loved BRG in it's many hue and chroma variants.  My brother had a BRG big Healey in the 60s that I loved to ride in as a kid.  I would like to paint the Mini a color I can live with and not have to repaint it later a different color, as I plan on doing all of the jams, trunk and under the hood, inside.  If I get tired of the color instead of repainting I should probably just get another Mini and paint it a different color. ahhaha

Its your Mini, and regardless what the factory did in the day I say that if you like BRG, well then just go for it!  Make the car what you really want rather what everyone else thinks.  Unless there is some compelling historical reason for keeping an orig period colour.  My Mini is a Leyland BRG from, I think, the 70's.  My Dad is having a '67 MGB redone in a MGB colour from the 60's as well.  Both are nice, but if I ever were to repaint the mini I would use the same colour of the MGB... a bit darker... (looks better in the shade!!)

Do what you like... its yours!

I'm going to bet you don't like El Paso. I love the dove grey they call beige with snow berry top. It may just be your glasses. Toyota SUV has a green that would pass for almond green I'm going to try it. You can always paint it again if you hate it. Steve (CTR)

My 1968 Morris Cooper S which I just picked up this summer has been painted a couple times.  It came from the factory as El Paso Beige with Snowberry White roof according to my Heritage certificate.  It has black original seats in great shape and a cream colored headliner.  The Mini is currently metallic blue, which is a horrible orange peel paint job with tons of chips and scratches.  What I wanted to do is paint BRG, but not if that color wasn't offered that year.  It has sliding windows as well.  Not an Oz Mini.  So, almond green looks alright but not as cool as BRG.  Tartan red is nice but as I stated my Healey is Colorado red which is close.  If I had a run of the mill Mini I would paint it a wild color scheme but this is more of a rare bird I want to keep as original as possible but not El Paso barf or beige.

Black over White, my favorite, too, but if that was my car it would get repainted in the original colors.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder, but if you're worried enough about it being original to keep it with factory offered 1968 colors, then why not leave it as it came? It can only be original once.

Otherwise, if you want it BRG, paint it BRG.

Original colour to match the Heritage Certificate, or buck the trend and go with Zippy's purple and yellow.

I too vote for almond green/OEW roof.

Love the almond green/oew roof, but that's only because it's what my car is. I think the Speedwell blue is great along with those nice light grays. The interior and wheel colors can sway the look of a car too. If you have red interior I don't think orange or yellow look so hot.

I agree though, color is a personal thing.

Paint colour is pretty much like deodorant... a personal choice.

They say cars in their "original" colour have higher resale but I'm not sure how this works if prospective buyers find the original colours unattractive  ...  I do think that "traditional" colours suit Minis best - and I'm not including some of the lurid purples and slime greens that made the 70s famous.

I hated the Fiesta Yellow my first S came in .. but its grown on me and I'm thinking its probably the best choice if I redo my Traveller (still in its original red - which is as common as muck).  I'll probably stick with Smoke Gey for my S as it was one of the rarest colours in the day - because it was so unattracrive that no one wanted to buy it. Today it is unusual and has a certain subtlety about it ..much like El Paso Beige...

I don't think there's any such colour as "BRG".  It came/comes in a huge range of hues - depending on who was racing...  It was probably the most common colour (range for Oz Coopers.  There were at least 3 or 4 (maybe more) different shades with different names.

Cheers, Ian

If I were to paint my car again it would either be Almond Green/White roof or Speedwell blue/white roof.
