Unfortunately, only we'vebeenhad has confirmed that he is in. One of my "maybe's" is definitely out. That leaves me with 1 "maybe" and 1 "yes".  I can't spread the $2200 worth of expenses out over 1 maybe and 1 yes. If I can't find other interested parties, I'll have to withdraw this offer for this year. I can give it another week or so before pulling the plug.

Seriously, this is good fun.

Warning though, you may enjoy it so much that you will build your own steaming derelict heap of crap racecar and live the rest of your life broke, searching Craigslist ads for the next $500 thoroughbred...

Ok, looks like +1 WoHoo! Just need a few more suckers drivers to give it a whirl. I can help with driver gear, likely, to save you some sheckles. There's also racesuitrental.com if you want to get something that smells a little... uh... fresher without the full price of commiting to buying your own gear.

The race is Nov 15-16 and you can get the schedule breakdown here.

If you race the moke, be prepared for pain in your jaw from smiling too much.  Especially if Spank keeps it like it was.

I'm towing out to MSR Houston to be at the 24 Hours of LeMons race, mostly for transporting another car to friends out there, so I figured I may as well throw another caronto the track if there's anyone intersted in driving it. I can bring the Moke or the Mini, which would be the furthest East either of these cars have raced. The moke is very user-friendly but if it is wet then we'll have to do something about potential visibility issues. The mini is a 4-wheel drift car once you get it going right and if there's space to flog it without risk of sliding into a car next to you. Both are momentum cars.

The mini would probably just have a non-turbo 998 in it and we'd justifiably beg for Class C (it's won twice before but once was with a 1275 in it and marathon 3+ hours stints), and it could be a real longshot for a Class C win. If I put a 1275 (about 10 more hp) in it, it would still be a longshot for a Class C win but would likely get Class B or at best Class C with 5-10 lap handicap (mostly because it's aforementioned win in C and Judge Phil doesn't love us anymore and not because it's fast).

The moke is a 1275 motor about 65-70hp, has never won Class C, and hits a proverbial wall at about 62mph. It's about as close as you can come to the experience of driving an oversized, underpowered gocart on the freeway.

I am only asking what it typically costs to run a race out here in California, which is $550 arrive-and-drive (all fuel, spares, entry and consumables costs all inclusive).

If you are in California and want to help me drive there and back, that's a bonus for both of us-- no travel expenses for you and help driving for me. I would want to leave San Diego some time the Wednesday before and expect to be home early to mid day Tuesday afterwards. In short-- I need to get there a weee bit early but want to get home asap.

Shoot me an email soon if it interests you.
