my goodness!! i didnt know mini AC are not strong enough to withstand heat 90F+ temp,, id rather  install a small window type house airconditioner inside my car and plug it on a 12V inverter.. that'll work just fine..

hmmm, thats my next project.

This should be entertaining .........

Rooster, don't bother with the inverter i have a long extension cord you can use

Astro air is out of business for sure. They did the early a/c's afaik, the ones with the black condensor mounted up front usually on the 998cc's. Don't know anything about Reader air.

Run the hoses or tubes under the car and up to the engine compartment. For a compressor I recommend the Sanden SD505. It's a perfect size for the Mini and has 8 mounting ears. It'll run on R12 or R134a. You'll have to get a receiver drier. Plenty of universal 8x2 1/2" are available. Just make sure the connections match the compressor. O-ring is connections is the best. If you are going with R134a make sure all your o-ring are neoprene or HNBR rubber. use Buna o-rings for R12. r134a also requires PAG oil and Mineral oil for R12. The most difficult part about adding a/c to a Mini is mounting the compressor and driving it. The compressor will probably require it have 2 pulleys simply so that one of them will line up to your drive belt. Brackets will have to be engineered and a belt tensioner will probably also be required. Hopefully by now I have discouraged you from wanting to add a/c to your Mini. I was in the automotive a/c parts business for over 20 years and lived in Texas during that time And always felt that if it was so hot that I needed a/c I left my Mini at home and drove one of my other cars. Good luck.

I take this to mean that questions about mini AC should be going to MadDog for the rest of the century.

To add to the above....

No A series came with AC....just A+. The block is drilled differently for the bracketry...it would need a bespoke bracket if you found an AC unit.

I have my AC set sitting on a shelf.  I put an A series in the car and have not bothered looking at making it work.

PS, I should an extra AC Delco book that could help understand the fundamentals of A/C operation. Yours for free.

If you catch me in a good mood I might even throw in shipping.

1. No , but like all things in life, throw enough money at a problem......

2. If you have working knowledge of how A/C works and good mechanical skills, or enough money to throw at it......

3. Buying a used set up from a member here, with your labor, and a recharge of R12 (if doing a R134 conversion plan on replacing all hoses with new barrier hose) you could get away with as little as $1000-1200, add someone else's labor, cost could climb to $1500 or more

4. Here,  (Sean) swindrum has an A/C set up for $750, others are selling A/C units also. Do a search on A/C, there is a thread where a lot of people are looking for a/c and some are selling. I might put a/c on my car someday, right now my pockets are  .  ebay is another source

OK, I opened a second window and here's a link   //www.minimania.com/msgThread/111984/1/1/Air_Cond_for_Classic_Mini

In short NO. There are no new ready to go Mini a/c systems. If you buy a used one you need all the parts including the alternator and a/c brackets and pulleys which are different. Also the later late MPI's 1996 > had a different set up. Going rate for a used system is $400 to $600 depending on how much of it you get.
