Yes, updates...sorry.  Car is running great!!!

The harness was purchased from Jet Motors.  (Not sure about the original source?)  I was in Jeremy's shop sifting through one of his piles of used bits looking for a light bulb socket and he happened to have an extra harness laying around.  The generation was a match and it had the sockets.  Jeremy made an offer, Celes demanded and I yessumed.  Glad I did too.

Prior to installation I picked up a new electric fuel pump, couple of Smith gauges and a bunch of those old school Brit penis head connectors to make it all look somewhat "correct".  The LHD vs RHD adjustment was not that big of a deal.  It did require some length modification here and there.  The 2 biggest WTFs were the two speed wiper motor (non-Brit wire colors) and that nifty hazard switch / circuit.  I pitched the break test thing and replaced it with a switch for the driving lights.  A few extra fuses and relays later and everything electrical works, including the dome light which I didn't know I had!

It's almost like Celes knew what she was doing.  Fire extinguisher is mounted where I can grab it fast.  Sealed

Have you got a Belgian-built mini?  Mine's one also, built in 1979 - strange collection of bits, Mk2 taillights, and other oddities.

Best of luck to you, do it one wire at a time and you'll be fine.  I added a bunch of relays (low-beam, high-beam, horn, fuel pump, accessories) to mine and an extra 4-fuse box, and so far, no smoke.

I would be curious to know where you got the harness. I have had some issues with a well known UK supplier and their subsidiary.

Thanks everyone for the hints and advice.  The new harness is a really close, but will need some modification for things like LHD, headlight relays, and wierd one off 1976 Belgium Mini mark IV with some hold over mark III giblits.  Ok, I'm diving back in...with a fire extinguisher close by!

I'm repairing a Scania Firetruck wiring harness at work. It caught fire in a forest fire last year and Scania wont provide the harness for that particular model, for some reason. So i m repairing it wire by wire, half the toasted harness. The Mini's harness looks like a motorcycle's to me now, i could help you anytime

You are a brave & lucky man. I'm grateful whenever my wife will step on the brake for me so I can check my taillights.  Wink

My fusebox toasted itself a while back. It fried the outer jacked of my new cloth-covered wiring harness and melted a half dozen other wires including one to my 123 dizzy. I reinstalled a new harness and fortunately the dizzy checked out. I told a buddy that the Mini has the simplest harness in the world—it only has 4 fuses! By buddy sez “sounds like it coulda used 5.”

If you bought the "Correct" harness for your car (i.e. from our host)  you will be very happy with the replacement harness and color coding that aligns as well with the Haynes manual.  Still have to check all the point-to-point though.  Love the Poster sized wiring diagram.  When it works, you can sign it and then frame it for garage art.

When you're ready to test circuits, make yourself a "fused jumper" to go from the battery to a ground point on the car. With that, you can test any circuit except the starter and, if there's something wrong, you just blow a fuse instead of making smoke.
