I run a short shifter and I guess I'm the rare bird that spent the time to properly install it and adjust it, so I love mine.

As others have said though... Don't buy cheap here. Get one of the "expensive" units as there is a SERIOUS distinction in quality and design.

With all that said, I can tell you that if you don't at the very minimum replace the two bushings that hold the.shifter housing to the tunnel... You'll hate your shifter even more. It will be difficult to find gears and make you want to remove it completely. If you want to go all out, you should also replace the bushing on the rear or the trans housing (assuming it's old and worn.)

Still no info as to where you are located in your profile. I rebuild the rod change shifter assemblies with new bushings and seal to protect against future wear. I can do exchange or R&R yours as you wish. Steve (CTR)

I also cut a couple of inches off the stick and rethread for a shorter shift without putting undue pressure on the tranny parts.

There are a lot of wear points in a rod change shifter, just installing a short shifter will not solve your problem as it just shortens the throw (amount of travel between two gears). A lot of Mini owners install them and end up removing them, most of them seem to be made in China if you decide to get one buy the best you can cheapest is not the way to go on this item.

not the content i expected but there are two rubber bushes underneath the shifter, replace them with new ones and you' ll get that tight feel again. Tip not applied to females. Cool
