This shaft is fitted with a u-joint, maybe a coat hanger and some duct tape could do the job just as well.

and don't forget to loosen the steering rack brackets to tilt the steering column  down when you install the drop bracket.

I have one like Mini Mania sells and they're nice.

Since most of our minis are "Mr. Potato-heads" I like the "new school" aluminum fully adjustable slotted ones, guess it's just a little bling-bling.

As you can see the Mini Mania version is adjustable. If you have one of the big old sterring wheels and drop it the full range the wheel will hit your thighs. So you'll need a smaller diameter steering to drop it all the way down.

I rather like the look of this one //www.dsnclassics.co.uk/retrosport-shop/interior/column-lowering-bracket-retrosport-billet-alloy/

5 colors to pick from.

Most drop brackets work pretty well though.

Yes. There are lowering brackets that will lower the steering column. Make sure you loosen the steering rack bolts first as the rack has to rotate when the column lowers.
