my goodness! it might be the grill, ...tighten all the bolt and screws that holds the grill to the frame and you should be ok...spray some lubricant on the screws too.

good luck, i hope birds go away!

but nothing is worse than my computer table...it squeaks like my land lady, lol

Yes, when i start driving, the cricket/chirping sounds exactly like this.  is this caused by the ball joints?

That particular squeak was the right front "teardrop" subframe mount on a MKiv (& later) car.  In the video all I did was push & pull the front valance right next to the front subframe mount.  I was also able to reproduce the sound by leaving the car in gear (manual transmission) and repeadey rock the car against engine compression.

To correct I sprayed just a bit of lubricating spray (I used Duralube) on the front of the front subframe mount.  I haven't had one apart yet to see exactly what they look like but it appears there is some sort of little metal alignment dowel that goes through the body which was a bit rusty on my car & causing the squeak.  I sprayed only that little metal dowel.

That was a fun one to track down.  Also was EXTREMELY annoying when driving down the road.  It would randomly come & go depending on speed, engine rpm and road surface.  It was also just as loud from the drivers seat driving down the road as it was in the video.

Hope that helps!

i shoot maybe 8 times on the ball joints, i let the pressure spit out the old grease on the side of the rubber, that way i know that old grease was replaced with fresh grease.

the side nipples require about 15 to 20 pumps. (on mine)   maybe yours would be less

Thanks for sharing your photos. How much grease should i buy? How much grease do you squeeze into each joint?

Thank you guys so much for the replies. I will go ahead and order a grease gun and grease from our host and go through the lubrication section from the manual. hopefully that'll fix my steering squeaks.

There should be 3 grease nipples per side, upper ball joint, lower ball joint and upper a-arm pivot. Get a grease gun and pump away. While you're at it grease the rear rear as well. You should see a grease nipple on the outside end of the swing arm pinion.

Are you sure it's from the front?
If you have one of the rear brake return springs on bass-ackwards, it'll make exactly the sound you're describing.

Best jack it up and feel for free play.  Grab the road wheel at 12 & 6 and try to wiggle it.....if there's movement there and you don't see the BJ move...it's wheel bearing.  Both easy fixes.

You may want to search the forum on this subject.  Clicking/ chirping would suggest constant velocity joints.  Check the rubber boots to see if they have deteriorated, our host sells replacements that come with the special grease.  While checking these you may want to look at the wheel bearings and repack those, with wheel bearing grease.  Also check the ball joints, is there a lot of play in them?  Look in your Haynes manual for further regular maintenance suggestions.

Hi Gurus,

I've been hearing a couple different suspension noise, one is I hear a bit squeal-type noise from the front suspension area while i'm turning my steering wheel. Recently the noise has been increasingly louder.

Not only squeaky/squeal noise when i turn the steering wheel, but also when the car is driving at low speed, i can hear light, cricket-like, chirping sound from the front wheels when it is in motion. Maybe the light cricket chirp during driving is from something else, but i'm not sure how to check.

Do i need to put 80/140 gear oil in the steering rack? Grease the ball joints? how do i diagnose/check this?

If it's the ball joints, what kind of grease do i use? and do i need to remove them to apply the grease?

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
