Wow, been a while since I've checked the forum, sounds like there are still agitators stirring it up, slamming Mokes and Woodies.  Back to my rock, cheers.

Yo Rooster,

NEWSFLASH!!! No one wants to hear your opinion! You've already dissed the Mini Woodies three, four or five times in former posts man. Enough already! I've owned (5) beautiful Mini Woody Wagons myself, and have been driving them over the last 36 yrs. Besides the Mokes, (of which I've owned 2 and also love), the Mini Woodies are my favorite car in the entire World. So you decided to return to bash my personal favorite Mini choice? Bad idea brah!!! I thought you were banned from this forum for good????? (don't you dare reply to this post either. Not another word).                            Mini Estate

Lemme get this straight.

Did someone remove a recent posting by robster or did you just want to respond with indignation to something which was posted 3 months ago??

I drove my 67 Moke as a daily driver in Los Angeles, California and Dallas, Texas for years. Drove from Los Angeles area to San Diego, Laughlin, Nevada. Drove from North of Dallas to Austin, Texas, etc

Drove in rain, light snow, freezing temps, hot melted to the steel seats weather (120+ degrees - Mini Owners of Texas memebers can attest).

Texas Trooper and I were in Dallas Times because he feels that I shouldn't be driving my "parade car" on his highway. Too many weird not safe for forum visited by children stories.

What is a Moke? It's a Mini Cooper without the uneccesary bits. If you don't like or care for the Mini then the Moke won; tbe yoru cup of tea. If you care for the Mini but not the Moke then I'm lost for words.

When I first got into Minis I had a 9 sec Trans Am but that never distracted me from the Mini, they are different vehicles. I've had an 06 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX SE when I had the Moke. The only time the Evo left the garage was on ICE days or when I have lunch with clients.

I had no idea George Barris commissioned to modify 25 Mokes for the Beach Boys? I wonder if any of them survived?

Robster; keep an open mind:

Way back when cars first got enclosed bodied (1910's), car bodies were constructed by coach builders, as in Cinderella type coaches, ( but not out of pumpkins!). You've probably seen a logo like the "Body by Fisher" one on a modern GM car. Fisher was a coach builder.

The car bodies were framed and clad in wood, which was then lacquered. With mass production, the bodies were clad in sheet steel. eventually a body style called the "Station Wagon" was developed - a vehicle to take luggage from an estate, resort hotel etc literally "to the train sation". To make these vehicles stylish and expensive looking, the rear of the car was framed in wood with wood panelling, in the manner of coach building. have a look at the 1917 Model T woody. Later they go more lavish. Have a look at the 1948 interior.

In the 1960's, 70's and 80's vinyl became a car maker's material. We got vinyl lad roofs and fake woodgrain as on the 1983 Chevy Malibu Estate. (Now there's a sociological goof up - Malibu was all about surfing but the used the wird "estate" to denote high class.)

Back to England of the 50's and 60's: The Morris Minor Estate (pre-Mini) was a smaller size estate car for doing errands etc. and looked the part of the bigger estate cars. When the Mini came out, the line included a longer wheelbase (LWB) car to continue the line of tthe Morris Minor Estate.

Don't make your final opinion of the Mini Woody on a few web photos. Wait unti you see a good one in the flesh at a car show. That "masking tape" is about an inch thick, very highty polished wood, carefully selected for colour and grain.

.

Although I've been around minis most of my life and that's where most of my interest is, the moke is like a turbo-charged vacuum cleaner, at auto-crosses and vintage racing, they really really clean up. And that includes beating up on mustangs. And well sorted minis.

They have my respect and hard to discount the cool factor . If funds permitted I'd be into a moke  faster than you could say Red Stripe. I'm only sorry I didn't buy one when they were more reasonably priced.

Yes sir, way cool.

All you gotta do is drive one and you're forever hooked.  Driving a Moke is the most fun you'll ever have with your clothes on!  Good weather or bad, they are still a blast.  I had a former girlfriend as me (when she first saw my Moke) "It looks interesting, but what happens when it rains?"  my reply, "you get wet."  "But what happens if it rains really really hard?"  "YOU GET REALLY REALLY WET!"  Anyway, it's a Moke thing...if you've never experienced one then you can't understand!

Okay, I've figured it out. You're really Bill Cox when he's off the Red Stripe aren't you?

Just come here to stir the grits so to speak. First you piss off the Moke folks then you take a stab at the woody guys.

I sold my Cooper but kept the Moke, and I have no plans to sell it.

I drive it to work when I can, and it's the most fun I have ever had on 4 wheels, sure it ain't fast, but it brings more smiles to me, to my passengers and to the people in the street that any other car in the road, even if it rains.

Miguel
