on of those pics states that its a 59. A "barn find" 59 would go for pretty big dollars.

when she said "its so small" she meant the car right?

While some what new to Moke ownership I have wanted one for many years. I'm very happy with my purchase and the price. Condition was very close to welding in some floor patches and rideing and a full blown restore. I'm still in the process of chemical stripping the old paint. Looks like a couple of brush or roller applied coats over the years. The less paint the quicker the sand blasting will go and less heat warping of panels. The sub frames are out to powder coater this week. I'm taking my time and not spending big chunks of money on it at any one time. While I'm happy I found a LHD one I'm not crazy about the Spruce Green, the 850 power and the drum brakes. I firmly believe restoring ( as near as possible ) is the best idea.

We loaded Peter's power unit sunday and I'm very excited to go for a ride in his. As it turned out Justin, Peter and myself all found Mokes about the same time. We all started work about the same time. Justin has been riding for some time. Peter has been busy doing some traveling this summer and is about to return to duty. I have a year and a half before Alex gets his drivers. He wants his 85 1000E converted to a 90 Cooper Carb. and the Moke on nice days.

Just think I had a 1930 Model A Ford, 1963 Austin Healey Sprite and a 1960 850 on jack stands in high school. Worked two jobs and gave up band and sports to have that junk. Steve (CTR)

Forgot why I was posting, I think the bargians in Mokes are about dried up.

All good comments, l tend to agree with isleblue65 that none will move out of that barn-at least at his asking price-

But on the other hand, mokes continue to bring top dollar, check this link from Australia, 21 mokes listed , with a medium asking price of around $18K Au dollare-

Now add about $2-3K on to each moke for shipping and soft costs to N/A and there are no bargains over there either- //www.carsales.com.au/car/leyland/moke/

Definitely no "gems" at the pricing he is dreaming about.  they would make nice projects for $1500 or so, but based on what he thinks the truck is worth, I think we have a situation where nothing is going to sell, and the owner won't budge.  These things never end well.  You  end up with once salvageable cars that sit and continue to rust while the owner clings to the fantasy that the rarity and value is increasing each year. If he has standing offers from Japan for $7500, he would be nuts not to take that.

Last time something like that was stated CC (i think) started up a Gilcrease factor thread !!!!                   Once sold you could get a good looking pick up maybe the Moke Ute variety

It was probably mid-nineties when I purchased my 1966 Austin Moke from Catalina Island from a private party in LA. Completely original 850 in Spruce Green. I paid $4,500.00. I sold it for $4,500.00. Rust free, original engine and paint and body. Those days are gone!                Mini Estate

Okay. So he has an offer of $7500 per moke but would sell them for less? This supposed $7500 would be for each and every one? Really? I'm not feeling it.

Too bad, it sounds like they will either move out of the country or sit there and rust away.  Ho-Hum.

For anyone wondering about affordability, I took the time to call yesterday. Seller was very pleasant and took the time to entertain my questions. I actualy had to stop him because once I heard the prices I told him I did not want to waste his time by allowing him to continue with his helpful, detailed descriptions. I explained to him that a link to his collection was posted on some forums and that is why he may be receiving more calls lately.

Seller says he has standing offers of $7500ea per moke for the entire lot to be shipped to Japan or back to UK.

Seller says he would consider less if they stayed in the US, because, much like the original "rescue", he'd like to see the mokes originally shipped to the US stay in the US (he quoted a number of original US import mokes but I didn't record that).

Seller says some could possibly be bought for between $3,000-$5,000 each. Seller also said he at one point was willing to deal with someone for a moke shell only who wanted it for a racecar project, but that person instead bought Bob Tarzwell's old race moke. No price was mentioned but the suggestion was that it could have been less than the $3-$5K without drivetrain, seats, subframes, etc.

Seller quoted the "record setting" price of the Amelia Island Moke when citing the expected value of mokes in the US.

Seller says the pickup in his collection is also for sale. Seller says the bed is rusty. He hasn't been able to have clear access the pickup in years but says it will need welding. When asked how much, seller said "there are none out there" and that they are hard to come by and, because of this, he would expect over $10,000 for his pickup.

I did not ask about the running moke nor did I ask about the mini saloons in his collection.

Hope this information helps someone and potentially saves the seller some time from having to repeat similar information to other possible timewasters such as myself.

"I Talked to Tom several times when I lived in MN about his collection of Catalina Mokes. They weren't for sale then unfortunately. Someone is going to walk away with a gem - or two."

Really, ???? after looking at the pics, and knowing the condition they are in, l would suggest not a "Diamond in the rough" but a lot of work for someone to bring any of these mokes back to a reasonable state-

I know Tom and l wish him well but l fear these mokes are well past "there best before date"

Aloha Big AL!

Time to connect some dots here. You say you sold a Catalina Moke to a Gent in LA named George??? When was that??? I bought my Catalina Moke from a guy in LA, (many years ago) It was all original with the Spruce Green paint. A 1966 Austin 850 if my memory serves me right. Ringing any bells Ol' Boy???     Mini Estate

I think the Datsun 2000 and the S's ( if they really are  S ) are the real treasures there
