If he still has the 77 papers and vin plates and the newer style V5 yes. If it is a 92 SPI running gear you are at risk and at the least i would make sure the 77 V5 paperwork has the same engine number on it as the engine itself. If it is carbed you still need the engine number to match the documents. They will not let you import a newer than 25 year old engine legally.

i see that bc replied? but was deleted before i could read it? maybe a flame? but i talked with the owner again as i was unclear , seems the shell was built in 1977, paperwork shows this, but most recently they swapped all the running gear several years back from a 1992 to get it back on the road so the paper work now uses the 1992 registration. since the shell was built in 1977 my question is can it be imported using the manufacturers plate and papers? otherwise i doubt he wants to hold it for 2 more years for me.

havent done much importing for several years and i know many rules have changed. i have a mini based kit car i found and would like to import. the car was built in 1977 but is registered as a 1992? i think it sat for many years without an mot and the current owner restored it and re-registered it? is there a process to change the year on the v5 back to when it was built?
