I commented years ago to someone on a Turbo Mini bonnet that was raised at the rear to presumably let out hot air and was told it was counter productive and that at speed the air would be pushed into the engine compartment not out and was referenced to the Trans Am's with the shaker hood scoop that faced rearwards towards the windscreen. As the louvers are farther away than the rear edge of the bonnet and most Mini's are not capable of big block Pontiac speeds maybe they will work, anybody have a wind tunnel ?

I'm familiar w/6464's pot shots, I was looking for clarification from them.

Steve, I'm with you, louvers on A's are way cool (so-cal reference), I have seen them on mini hoods and thought they were cool and functional cool.

Zippy, some flames like ghost flames are cool but some are over kill  , going more for a hot street/race look rather than rat-rod.

I guess it could mean no to what ever you are thinking. If you know the poster you can get a idea of what it means. I have always thought louvers were cool since my Model A days. Now that I read it could be answer to last part of question "are they different" No and replies are thin. Steve (CTR)

Mac McCormick had to think. He is at several races a year. Still doing it.

Not sure 6464 though if you're saying no, " MkI and MkII are different "

or are you saying " that is a stupid idea SxS, you're going to ruin a perfectly good hood and it won't look good, you're a freakin idiot ! "

Hey Steve (CTR), I was at Mid Ohio but because of reconstructive foot surgery, I was only able to walk to and view the race from the "S's", wasn't able to walk to the pits to view cars or talk to drivers. I have good days and bad days (walking), that wasn't a very good one. Do you  have or do you know of any sites where I could see pictures of Mac's car ? I'd love to see them. I'll look through some sites I know of to see Mac's car.

Thanks for the replies, SxS

A couple of things about this thread. First if you were at the Can Am race Mac's car had louvers all over it. I have ask him about it and a friend of his does them for him. Seems like there are some who think it would not help. Back when running a 998 with many miles when the weather was warm and I stopped after a short run if I did not open the bonnet at each stop I would come back to vapor loc. All it required was release and raise to sit on safety latch. Some one on the left coast installed a small scoop and solved his vapor loc problems.

I have found myself with several shells and want to play with speed record type speeds. I have toyed with aero ideas for years. Crude air dams and skirts spoilers anything to cheat the air. Reducing air flow into the engine compartment or letting it out may be a key to speed.

Is there a speed record type event on the east coast. I don't like salt. Steve (CTR)

Actually, on a Moke ( MOKE ) it would match the front grill slats....although wouldn't really be very functional

Haven't tried the lead free body solder yet, still have plenty of lead. (and a few brain cells left) Would think it would help with air flow also.

For a couple of hunks of worked sheet metal, that seems like a bargain.
Maybe I could find a ratty Moke bonnet to install these and swap it out when in the mood..... Needs flames though.... and maybe a bit more cowbell.

Replys are getting a little thin. I'd love to louver a hood/ bonnet. Went to electric fuel pump and vapor loc stopped. Steve (CTR) still want to do it.

Thank you Spitz, that's what I thought.

I have a very nice Mk1 bonnet, also a MkII (off my 69 Authi) bonnet that I've been using for spray outs for years, testing pearls, candies, other colors of paint.

(Looks like something from the 60's involving LSD, and I'm not talking limited slip !) I'm thinking about adding louvers to a second hood, not molesting the original. Both painted the same, being able to swap when the spirit moves me.

I figured you, Hunter or Coopertune would reply.

Thanks again, SxS

Hinges are the same for I and II

Hood is also the same throughout I believe, just the hinge attach moved on III and the chrome lip added at II ( which can be removed if fitting to a MkI

edit....to clarify.  the lip is welded on, the chrome piece attaches to the lip

Question for anyone that can answer it, (no guessing robster)  I know that the bonnets are different from Mk1 to MkIII but are they the same (bonnet and hinges) from Mk1 to MkII ?

MkII had the bigger tail lamps, still had external door hinges and sliding windows, wondering about the bonnet, are they the same or different ?

Thanks in advance, SxS
