The noise is telling you that your idler bearing clearances are too big.  Its probably not good but mine were like that for years (decades??) before I found someone who had cornered the world market in idler spacers (thanks Doc) and he made the noise go away...

Can't say it made much difference but its soooo much nicer now the rattle is gone...

Cheers, Ian

Probably just the primary gears rattling, just bump the idle up a bit until the noise goes away or put up with it while it is cold.

I made a mistake once where I used longer bolts than I should have when mounting the engine mounts to the bell housing of the clutch. When the clutch spun I was hearing a clanking from the clutch hitting the longer bolt. When you press the clutch pedal in the clutch was clearing the bolt. No damage just the noise. Changed the bolts and the noise was gone.

Does the noise go away when you raise the idle without depressing the clutch.

mine does the same thing,,,i have a suspicion that the release bearing is rusting out, i tried squirting some wd40 on the area where the release bearing is, the noise went away for some time but it came back, the rust on the inside of the release bearing have created a scar or tiny holes that's what produces the grinding noise...

as soon as i find a vehicle lift,im gonna remove my engine and investigate on the clutch further.
