so it comes out that coopertune must be roloster , rooster ?? hmm we never know, why are you defending them???

I received word that something was happening, so thought I'd pop in and comment.  This quoted post struck me as particularly ironic.

Why would you realistically believe that you've been mistreated?  Do you seriously believe that 'imposters' just decided that you'd be as good a target as anybody?  And your behaviour had nothing to do with it?

All attempts to help you were ignored and ridiculed by the better knowing guru 'Robster', who has given more than his share of crap advice to legitimate questions.

There are too many examples to list, but I know for a fact that I:

  • Welcomed your newbie enthusiasm and encouraged you to read the Articles, Calver's Corner, Tech Pages and Haynes, as well as join a local mini club.  Yes, in my very first week of being helpful to you, I encouraged you to join the Arizona Mini Owners Club - or whatever they're called.  (I was dismissed and later ridiculed by you, because you're not going to read to learn anything that you already know.  LOL indeed...)
  • minibitz offered a legitimate suggestion in response to your claim that the engine had lurched violently (juddered) which you immediately dismissed as absurd.  I then offered a quotation from a product available on this very website which stated the same as minibitz' suggestion.  You ignored that too.  Then, you go out and buy a carb needle, not understanding that a needle is not a jet.
  • You woudn't listen when it came to your contact breaker points needing adjustment.
  • You went on and on about not being able to find a Pertronix unit for your 59D4 distributor.  I spoon-fed a direct link to the product available from our host, still you twisted about not being able to find a unit.
  • You believed that squirting WD40 on the clutch plunger would solve your clutch problems, claiming that you'd rinsed the throw-out bearing.  Last time I checked, my throwout bearing was under the clutch cover and not accessible without removing the 'wok' cover from the side of the engine unit. Or that using a bit of bicycle handgrip and soda bottle to repair the rod-change mechanism probably woudn't be the right way to go.  Never mind the fact that we (all) tried to tell you that you've got a verto slave cylinder for that wildly bent pre-verto arm, and could have actually guided you through a complete and thorough clutch refurbishment.  I remember one time when I typed a complete clutch replacement step-by-step from memory (I think ve9aa was replacing his clutch at the time), cheleker found one point that I'd missed - I forgot to place a small piece of plastic cling film under the master cylinder cap to reduce drips.
  • Not to mention the weird spring observed holding your clutch arm at the moment.
  • Or the miss-matched ignition leads.
  • Or the fan on backwards.

It goes on and on - we tell you what we observe in your VVS videos or substandard photos and you scoff, ridicule, ignore and claim that nobody's helping you.  The only thing you choose to hear is 'read your Haynes'.  Boo-Friggin'-Hoo.

Heck, I even tried to spark up a casual conversation once by mentioning that I used to drive from Tucson to Yuma every Monday, worked out of a conference room at the Shilo Inn once apon a time ago.  I still have contacts in Yuma; year-round residents, in fact.  I don't get out there often enough anymore, sigh...

You're not the only one with a psychology degree, drop the victim act; you could actually learn something.  Remember, Coolsterr/Pacific Luke and the other name :Γ , the classic mini is a bit more complicated than a Morphous scooter.

My opinion to Jemal's query - Lifetime bannishment.  It's Don's sandbox and some 'members' choose to be jerks.  No jerks allowed.

Perhaps an ignore button so you don't have to see posts by people who annoy you or assign some moderators who can delete posts that are particularly innappropriate.

I honestly don't know why most people let robster and others wind them up.  Just don't respond.  There must be something better you can do with your time.  People get pretty heated here sometimes and it just seems silly.  Go drive your mini!

Thanks Jemal.

well i dunno too, i post questions, expecting to get an answer from some who' willing to help then ill thrown back with sentences like, open your manual, you dont even know how to use the search button, bad grammar, calling me all sorts of names, like rooster, lobster, stupid, dumb, idiot, incompetent, silly, name it?!!

There are technical limitations here.  This forum is not a commercial platform but custom software built by Dennis' group in Cold Fusion with the rest of the site.  It was a pioneering e-commerce system when it launched and was ahead of other forum platforms of its day.  I researched it a lot while proposing to do something similar for Heritage Garage, but the conclusion was it would be a very big and expensive project to catch up to Dennis' excellent work, and would take years to become competitive.

The catch is that to add features as requested requires custom development effort.  This is a drawback of being a custom system.  If it were a current platform like phpBB etc we could have the requested features - but then you lose the compatibility with the rest of the site - like user IDs, etc.  Then on the other hand it is a big project to transfer this enormous forum to another platform, and likely not cost-effective.

To either move to a full-featured platform, or to custom build the requested features in here, conflicts with other development priorities; the commerce system, shipping, order tracking, inventory control, payment gateways and all that.

The fact that the regulars here are not regular customers is a fact that we all know the implications of as small businessmen ourselves.  However it is still an excellent traffic driver for Mania when others come here for help.

"...Chinese product hater" i like chinese people but i don't like the quality of their products."

Robster, the Chinese are perfectly capable of manufacturing world class goods. They will also make anything you want to a price point. So, don't blame the Chinese for crappy products. Look towards the companies asking them to make 'em.

Take heed, the almighty retsbor has spoken.... putting up new account, posting his very first post, hitting people left and right anonymously, a stature of what a real meaning of coward  is, tell you what, in every debate i am into , i always end up the winner,  a one on one debate was put up dedicated for me and another wannabe member, in kawasaki forum, it ran for about 6 months, then guess what, he ended up being banned, he fell on my trap, my double major in psychology kicks in , he was caught opposing his own words, kinda like fish being caught in it's own mouth... same thing happened in the jetboat forum....that was several years ago.

retsbor,i dare you to disclose your real username and we'll go from there......my time is precious, i'm too famous to even waste my time pressing the keyboards for you...i left several forums in the past and up to now, admin still emails me telling me to come back ,visit them and liven their forum... that is me "robster" ... every forum needs a robster i tellya that.

i am known in other forums as the "Chinese product hater" i like chinese people but i don't like the quality of their products.

having me in a forum is an opportunity,a pride,an advantage rather than a disgrace....remember that!!!

Wouldn't say I'm "afraid" to post. Just trying to save face so that I can still post under my normal username without backlash. And just as a little bonus, my identity is going to be pretty hard to trace through IP's and all that jazz. Randomizer/anonymizer just to be safe. I'm just using this anonymity that is so beloved by the hosts.

If I had my druthers, I'd want a way that a post could be collapsed by popular vote.

Jamal, is that impossible?

Banning people seems a bit harsh.  This isn't a dinner party.  For the most part it is public.  And like any public place there are some people that just need to be ignored.

Thanks Don and Jamal for this forum.

But here's the thing.. he can do that because it's the internet. The question is, does MM want to let A$$holes run rampant on their website? Do they know that the arguments like this are causing people to talk about them on other forums and not in a good way?

2) Air2Air, I consider you a friend, but you're being overly inflamatory right now. You are telling everyone on this site that they are whiny and stupid children and the truth is that they have an opinion. What makes my opinion any different than yours? Instead of telling everyone repeatedly that they are being stupid children, maybe you should take your own advice and stop complaining about everyone complaining. Do you see how that makes you look? I don't think the intent of anyone is to cry like babies or to tell MM that they hate this site. Jemal asked for opinions and he got them.

3) Making information required to be public will quickly lose you a lot of members that value any sort of privacy. I would much rather you make my spam email account public than making my name or my location public. I would personally delete my account if you put that mandate in place. Don't know about anyone else.

3) NO ONE CARES THAT THIS PLACE IS FREE!!! Ok. Can we stop daying this? You've been saying it since I joined way back and it has always been a stupid argument to me. Every forum I've ever been on is free. To top it all off, your forum is a great wealth of knowledge and that draws people in. In to your website which generates hits for you and internet traffic and sales. And people are shamed from posting links to items on other forums because you are the host. When we all know that GBcarparts, minisport, minispares, and ten other websites are 10-50 times cheaper. It's definitely not a secred. In fact, the first day that I posted on here I asked about a part and someone asked me for my email to SPECIFICALY tell me to shop around before buyin from you. haha But yet we still drive people to buy from you. So stop with the "it's free so you'll take what we give you and you'll like it" line. It's irrelevant and honestly misinformed if you actually believe it.

4) If you have such a problem with this place being free that you would threaten to shut it down, then I say go for it. Shut the whole damn thing down. But I'm hoping you and Don are smarter than that because you know this "free" forum is a massive indirect revenue driver for you.

5) Robster, I can not for one second believe that you are a psych major. I studied psychology. Didn't minor or major in it, but even I remember enough to call you out on it. Why would I say this? Because you are a 100% perfect textbook example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. But you probably don't have any idea what that is. If you actually did get through school with a psych degree, it's because your professors used you as a living example and it must have been a running joke. I actually pity you because I know you will see this and think that there is no way I'm right because you are the embodiment of Anosognosia. I would tell you to search for both of those terms on Google, but we ALL know you are too incompetent to use a search function. But I'm sure someone will come behind me and do the work for you and give you a link. I won't give you a link because that just perpetuates your incompetence.

6) The only person I think I've actually agreed with in this thread 100% is 94touring. (sorry 94touring, I'm not a member of your site... yet) If you had 10 house guests over for dinner and one of them started annoying everyone and telling everyone they are dumb, and then the other 9 house guests look at you and say "are you going to allow this guy to do this?" but you just sit back, don't engage, and then every now and then actually laugh at some of the things he said... how long do you think it will take for people to leave your house? And would expect any of them to come back any time soon? Better yet, would you expect that they would just leave and never have anything bad to say about your house parties? No. They are going to have a bad taste in their mouth and they will probably tell others to avoid your house. I've been a member on this site since 2001 (woops. did I just give away who I am? oh well) and in that time, I've seen MM talked about in numerous different ways. I've seen them talked about on TMF as a bunch of old guys and purists that don't care for innovation and younger styles. I've seen them called FAR worse things. I've seen people go out of their way to tell others not to buy from you but to shop around because your staff was actually rude to them when they called to ask about parts. haha. Just something to consider.

7) As for the whole "this forum needs some youth" statement. That's stupid. I know a couple of members on here that are in their 20's and they have some cool things going on. I follow them on other FREE forums. I think they just don't want to post on MM because of the format (can't have a dedicated build thread on this format) or mainly because you have an unmoderated wild west attitude.

I know that my post will probably be deleted by the morning, but I'm just saying what a LOT of people are thinking. Sorry I'm not sorry.

1 post, robster spelled backwards, not sure (or care) who you are, but........

if it walks like a troll

talks like a troll

writes like a troll

it's most likely someone that hasn't grown a pair and is afraid to post under there true user name.

A few good points though.

I was thinking robster was more like Schrodinger's cat, sometimes I think robsters (brain) might be dead, other times .......ahh never mind.

As sands thru the hour glass, so are the days of MiniMania's forum paradox.

I like pudding. Jello is only ok. Thought you'd like to know.

Jemal do you recall when I advertised for minimania on www.operationmini.com? Do you recall when you guys offered to buy the website from me after my then wife had an affair with my then best friend who also ran the website? Do you recall a certain member attacking my personal life after that period of time, using very vulgar and demeaning phraseology? Yes, there has been hatred on here. I think I even read where racism was used on here recently which caused someone to leave. There are people who don't like this forum because some sour grapes ruined it for them. They don't like asking questions on here. So there you have it. They wouldn't tell you but I've heard some of the stories and that's "the word on the street". Sit back and let people go at each others throats without stepping in if you like. It's your sandbox.

Jemal, guys,

Thank you to Don, Dennis, Jemal and the staff at MiniMania for providing us with a forum on which we can misbehave.

Jemal, just make the change.  Require everyone to fill in the fields.  The conspiracy theorists among us can get hotmail accounts.

All eight of them.

I haven't seen "hatred"... just poor humor and even poorer grammar!  Why do people look, I keep asking?  I've said over and over that anonymity of the internet gets people to spew without much regard to the feelings of the recipient.  It is exactly that!  If we can see each other as humans, we would not hide in a dark corner and lob grenades.

What you (collectively) aren't understanding is that for MANY years the only one here that takes much interest in the Forum is ME!  I take the time to help people in any way I can. No I don't have time to "over moderate"!  It's not even my job, but I put up well thought out answers and try to make it relevant and fun.   We aren't discussing open heart surgery here. In the end, this is a trivial part of life, and I'm always bemused to see how seriously people take things.  If we can't be adults and maintain civility with the open and free exchange of ideas (and that damn word again OPINION!!!), then maybe it is time to shut this thing down!

We are all here because we share an interest or sometimes passion for Minis.  But it is also a place where friends hang out to see what's happening in each other's lives. I like to think that friends drop in for a visit 'at lunch' to see what's new within the community, which spans the globe. The fact is, relatively few of you are even customers.... please don't think I don't appreciate those that are, and I mean no disrespect at all, but Don is right in that many of the biggest mouths on here can barely contain their obvious dislike of us personally or as an organization, and constantly point others to where THEY buy their parts.  Much happened and grudges were in place before I was even here, and there isn't anything I can do about that.  But to say that "word on the street" is that we are a pain in the ass... That's just stupid!  What street is that?  I bet your ex-wife's street has an even more vile opinion about you!  (just an example to make a point! No particular ex-wife!)

How many places are left that you can call and get personalized service and help, or even talk to a real person anymore. let alone one that is an EXPERT about your obscure little clown-car? Maybe you'd rather get a very polite lady in the Philippines when you call to ask about the water jacket port on your head gasket!  Perhaps you can tell I've spent time talking to Comcast customer service! They are trained to respond off a checklist, not the particular problem that you are trying to describe!

Thank you all for taking the time to make you OPINION heard!   And 94t, don't overlook the benefit of advertising your website on every one of your posts... a blatant violation of our forum rules! I guarantee that a google search for you will find your website in one of OUR pain in the ass posts!  You're welcome.

Todd how long have you been a member here? I can assure you this latest guy everyone hates isn't the most exciting thing in the past 10 years. While they are generous enough to provide a free forum, I believe it's not in their best interest to let it run wild, as has been the case when problem children arise. It reflects badly on the business they run. After all, their name is on this product.

I just can't believe grown men are demanding their tears be wiped by a small company with hardworking employees who have a business to run and are generously providing this forum for free - the best, most active resource in the US if not the world.

If someone wants moderation they should volunteer to moderate.  However it would be a very dull job here in the world's tamest internet forum - where Robster is the most exciting thing to come along in a decade.  We need young guys like him very badly in this hobby, and none of us were Einstein in our youth.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this long thread of complaints still hasn't included one thank you to Jemal or Don or Dennis for all the hard work they do here that does not contribute one red cent to Mania's revenue.
