SXSMAN, are these "2 u-bolts (4 nuts) holding the column to the firewall" on the engine side of the firewall?  I can only see one nut/bolt at the base of the steering column on the inside (passenger compartment side) of the firewall. Thanks.

One of the first things I noticed that I didn't like about the Mini was the plastic steering column. I've seen racers that have modified their columns, but they're a bit plain looking. I purchased a tilt steering column finished in stainless from Flaming River for my build, then changed my mind and had the whole thing fabricated. I still like the look of the tilt column and the ability to get the wheel at the perfect driving angle. The column is still sittin' in my garage in the original box. I also have the correct Mini U-joint and steering wheel adapters if anyone's interested.

It is not only the splines that differ on steering wheels the spacing and amount of screws that hold the wheel onto the boss varies widely too. Chances of finding one at a yard sale that fits a Mini in this Country are probably very slim, but you may prove me wrong.

9 photos and some words for the 10-min tech feature.

I actually wanted to do a lot more pics, but space precludes it.

Robster, check out the stuff on Ididit's website: //www.ididitinc.com/

I was considering setting my car up with one, but then I got over myself and decided that what it had was good enough.

We spoke of this one other time. The 2 u-bolts (4 nuts) holding the column to the firewall must be loosened before lowering the column to a position you like.

Although more money the Moto-Lita is a very nice steering wheel. And would look better without modifying.

Like Alex said, 5 minutes

here's jemal's steering set up

looks like a cylindrical aluminum thing,, if you noticed it's tilted down a bit, i wonder if this part is available

for sale at MM?

Correct, you must loosen the rack bolts when lowering a steering column.

At least I do.
