Started with the blue tape method, then in looking at the windows, checked to see if the screws holding the hinge to the frame were rusted.

They weren't, so removed the 4 screws, pulled the hinge off, and used it as a template to drill the holes.  Worked for bith sides, and with rear quarters in, I'm one step closer to getting the thing on the street!

Put some of the blue painter's tape along the hinge area of the B-pillar. Open the piano hinge all the way so it would be to the outside of the B-pillar. Hold the window into the opening as though closed to get the proper alignment. Mark the tape for where the top & bottom of the hinge would be and where the edge of the window is in relation to the opening. Then you have alignment marks for positioning the hinge to the inside face of the B-pillar for marking where to drill the mounting holes.

Can you drive the hinge pin/wire out to separate the hinges then locate the non-window hinge part to the window opening? I don't have my window handy so IDK for sure but usually piano hinges can be separated.

Hey all,

Going down the home stretch on my mini rebuild.

I've got the correct size opening rear quarter windows, but they're the piano hinge type, and my shell is a MkII which has the same size opening, but is drilled for the two hinge windows.

Now, I could drill the shell for the piano hinges, but getting the location just right is a challenge, given you need to have the window in the open position to mark the location of the holes, but closed to center the window, it'd probably be better to pick up a pair of two hinge windows.

BUT, they need to be MkII windows, as they're a different size than the MkIII and later windows.  MkII's were made only for a few years, so chances are small that there's a pair out there in good shape for sale or trade, but thought I'd ask.

The two hinge windows I need are 14" tall by the hinge, tapering to 13" at the other end, and 28.5" at it's longest point.

While this request is out there, and assuming no response, any suggestions for marking the shell for the holes required for the piano hinge windows?

Was thinking of trying:

1)  ut double sided tape on the hinge, and poke holes in it where the screws go in.

2)  Offer up the window to the shell, and try to get the tape to stick the to the shell & release from the window

3)  Drill the shell where the holes are on the tape.

Thanks!

Scott
