It is a diagnostic tool hook up/code reader. The tool is made by sykes Pickavant for Mini's as well as others and you can sometimes find used ones on line but usually someone has one to loan out.

Ahhhhh! So, according to Haynes, it should have 3 wires: Black/green trace; White /Yellow trace; and Pink/PK trace. ( I think the "PK" is a typo that should have been 'BK' for black.)

Okay, that narrows it down. I don't know anything about fuel injected cars, so won't be much help. Howm many wires area tachd to it and what colour codes do they have? It looks to be one white and one black. Does the black one have a white trace line on it by any chance? Or does th whie one have a colour race on it? Someone might be able to figure it out from a wiring diagram.  Best of luck.

It's a 1996, spi, left hand drive  and the fuse panel is located on the fire wall by the passenger side

It is still not easy to understand where this is - the fuse panel is not a typical Mini fusebox, which would be in the engine bay.

Can you tell us what type of Mini you have - age, model, carb or fuel injected, left-hand or right hand ... that kind of thing to narrow it down.

Just a little box with an X in it. You can't coppy in a picture from your compuet. Use the green botton to the left of the message typing box. Or copy it in from a photo hosting site.
