Why would he be choking? His auction has been on the front page of this forum for quite a while.

If I didn't already have a 1098 sitting in the garage waiting it's turn, I would be tempted to bid....

Come on guys. Let's not all jump to conclusions.
The previous owner could very well have stuffed a 1098 crank into the block when he rebuilt it to the fine specification we've all seen...... Probably snuck in a hot cam and domed pistons at the same time.
That must be one hot engine....

Yeah. The block is the same size roughly. But that's not the same as the bore or the stroke. You have a 998. It's that simple. Not so special anymore are you?

I take that back. You still fit many of the definitions for "special"

Q1 yes blocks are the same.
Q2 No it doesn't. The 99H says it's a 998 block.

gosh, i felt like i've been robbed and cheated on, the seller said its 1098 then it turned out to be 998 block... less power... grrrr

Well at least we know it's a 998 block now.  Only way to tell if a 1098 crank and pistons are in there is to measure the stroke like suggested above.

That's just stupic.  Your fan boy isn't gonna steal your identity based on your engine id number; posting your shoe size may be cause for concern, but not your engine id tag.

Then why didn't you tape off the last set of numbers and let us see that which actually allows the type to be determined?

I can tell you, my engine begins with 99H7914, then there's a space and only then the actual numbers.

In the case of my engine, the 914 is British Leylands homage to the Porsche 914S.

This is actually interesting - the block is definately A+, but the head studs don't look like factory A+ studs.

So, how about you pull a spark plug, and put something long and thin in there (like a welding rod, thin wooden dowel, etc). Put it in 4th (handbrake off) and push/ pull until the stick is at its highest point, then apply a sharpie mark that corresponds with (say) the bottom of the spark plug hole. Now push/pull again until the same stick is at its lowest point, and apply another sharpie mark... Remove stick, carefully measure the distance between the markers, and report back.

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

I'm not the engine number guy, but I still think you're missing the prefix part of the number.
