Write down the engine serial number, which should be on a metal plate riveted onto the top of the block just above the alternator. Then post the number here and somebody will explain it.

If the number is missing, post a good image of the front of your engine so we can see from the rocker cover down the front of the engine. Then people will be able to confirm if it is a A-series or an A+ series engine and maybe whether it is a 998 or a 1275.

100cc difference in power is very significant... paddy hopkirk won the 1964 Monte rally driving 1071cc,,if he used 998, he would've been the last to finish

It's not just the engine that won the Monte Carlo rally it was the car as a whole - do some research. And if you are thinking your "1098" is in the same league or any comparison to a 1071 S motor you are in dreamland. It's not all about cubic inches you can make a 998cc engine quicker than a 1275, in fact a good 998 engine is a better smoother engine than a lot of 1275's i have run into.

Alex said that he had an article in Mini Magazine, and that he was interviewed, been looking for it in youtube but there's none, i'd like to see how he looks like

Do you practice being stupid or is a natural talent ?

I've had technical articles in the last two issues, and another one in the edition just gone to print for next month <-- notice the word PRINT, it means it isn't on YouTube.
Why would I say I've been interviewed when I'm the other side of the pen... oh, that's because I haven't.

As far as I'm aware, the factory never made 1098 A+ engines, therefore yours being an A+ is 99.9% certain to be a 998.
Post the engine number.

I just told you in my previous post. Look up the differences between an A+ an an A series. Good luck on getting your money back in the condition it is in now.

Again you refuse to accept the truth about something Robster, why i should even expect otherwise from you i have no idea. I don't even think your engine is an A series but is a later A+ (or minus in your case) of which the 1098 was never produced. In other words it is impossible for your engine to be a 1098 just because the title and po states/said it is does not matter as they are just quoting what the car ORIGINALLY came with and know no better just like you.

As you have been told not once but several times by Alex you have a 998cc engine not a 1098cc engine. Matt it could have the similar 12G202 head, the biggest issue if fitting it into a Mini would be the autocross differential ratio.

I've found the 1100 to be a very fun, torquey power plant, that can take some high revs. Price isn't bad, no history though.

Crap shoot unless buying as a core to go through.

Ahhh, I remember the days of buying a good running engine/transmission for $250.

Fore days of yore.

Nice...

I think that should have the 12G295 head
