I endorse Delta Cams as well and have the advantage of being a 10 minute drive away from their shop :>.

Ijust talked to Scott at delta cams and he tells me that the spec for our lifters is a 106 inch radius or 2 thou per inch. as our lifters are smaller than an inch it works out to be about 3/4 thou each way across the crown. As jchealey says they are really good guys and I got a 5 minute lecture on how some of the older hemi's had a 118 inch radius and why etc. He told me if anyone has questions they are welcome to call and their toll fre number is 1 800 562 5500. They do also have some nifty videos on their website under services, spray welding or cam welding.

I have also used Delta Cam, on 3 cams and they have been great to work with. I would be one of those mail order customers. One of the cams had lost two lobes and needed severe repair. That one was repaired and reprofiled but I have never run the cam in an engine yet. One risk with getting cams welded up is keeping them straight. They tend to warp and the cam worker must keep them straight. I don't know how that is actually done.

I'd be interested in knowing the radius on the lifters. If I recall it should be 50 inch radius. Hold a steel rule to the face and it should rock slightly. If no light shows at edges when held up to light they are flat. Most coming out of service show light in the center. Steve (CTR)

Interesting thread - thanks - I will have to start reading over there too!

picture of the working end attached - I did take a picture across the top but you cant see any curvature so its very slight.

the set that came out of the engine had the drain hole like isky's but I dont know if they were original isky's or not - I got the engine after it had been sitting for about 5 years and who knows how many times it was opened before I got to it.

There is indeed a 0.0007  (7 10,000th)  slope across the cam lobe and I know the guys at delta cam finished the lifters with a slight convex dome but I didnt ask how much. I can call and find out if you are interested - only cost me $2 a lifter to get them done and the guy in the machine shop said the old lifters were good steel - he told me something similar today would probably cost closer to $8 to 10 each.

I recently posted about interchangability of cams etc etc. I decided in the end to get my damaged cam repaired, it had a chip off the rear lobe and a few lbes were running a little low!

I took it to a local cam shop - delta camshafts in tacoma WA and was most impressed with the work and the cost. They seem to do a lot of mail order work too but for anyone local I am very happy to recommend them (no affiliation).

they cleaned and checked the original cam, rewelded the chip and low lobes and then profiled the whole thing, cleaned and checked my isky style lifters and resurfaced them to be slightly convex again. cost me $90 out of the door including state tax. I also bought the zddp additive for run in and they provide the high zddp paste and a set of run in instructions.

The cam in the last picture is an 850 cam I was going to get reprofiled before I decided to go with the original.
