Yeah... we grew up (not done that yet!), the highlight of the year was when the Canadian Tire Catalogue came out. One of the best things about Canadian Tire was that when you walked in the door (some stores anyway) you actually got that "new tire" smell. They've sort of gone soft in recent years selling furniture, appliances, homestyle stuff and even food. Back in the say if you wanted food in a Canadian Tire, they might have a Coke machine, but you had to go outside to a chip wagon - there was usually one not far away.

I'd rather freeze to death than die of thirst. Frost-bite isn't all that painfull (though the thawing process is antoher matter) - as a kid I had the top half my ears freeze solid as a pork chop from the deep-freeze.

We've got water... lots of it. Lying around in piles at the moment. Can't seem to get rid of the stuff. The climate up here is sometimes described as "6 months of winter and 6 months of lousy skating."

Seriously, real winter only lasts from about December through March in most of Canada and it isn't always desparately cold and snow bound. Just last week, a couple of girls from Toronto were skating on the canal here in Ottawa, went out of bounds and broke through the ice. And we do get other seasons like spring, fall and glorious summer. So most of the year is Mini season, which is what really matters.

Just for a teaser, have a look at my sailing club https://www.ldsc.ca/

It is located on the Ottawa River in the City of Ottawa. The river broadens out into several large lakes. Lac Seschenes (french for Lake of Oaks) is about 22 miles long, anoyt 1.5 miles wide in places and somewhere over 200 feet deep at one location. Most of that water is drinkable - if you get a mouthful while swimming it won't hurt you. The City takes the drinking water from it, filters it, adds a bit of chlorine and aerates it before piping it to somewhere around a million people. Average cost per household somewhere around $750/year which includes sewer costs and the infrastructure costs for both. The waree itself is cheap.

I don't live in the great white north...I'm near NC/KY/TN,WV...

The jetstream dropped down and let all this white stuff and sub temps in...

It happens sometimes... Not the normal....

See I don't know what I would do if I had to pay for my water !!!

I  have livestock and they drink a lot of water ...

My whole farm  has spring water ..

I'm just very happy that it's the end of Feb and not the  first of Nov LOL...

We  have had  worse winters here... 132" of snow for a season...

But my land doesn't shake, don't get many droughts, Summers are under 100*f

We live at 3500'+ above sea level.... In some of the oldest mountain ranges ...

Snowblowed 15cm on Friday after work.  Snowblowed another 15cm again this morning.  Temp topped out @ about 2*C....warmest in about a month.

It has been -20>-28*C for the past month and we keep getting walloped with snow over and over and over.

Granted, it's not -36*C either, so it's one evil over another, LOL !

My closest Princess Auto is just a hop from KMS Tools and the Greyhound depot (for parts shipped from Vancouver Island) in Port Coquitlam...always hit both Princess & KMS when I go that way as they tend to be complimentary stores.

We have a store here in Ottawa, on the far side of the province east of Manitoba, so technically I'm out of your zone. But Princess is based in Western Canada. The Ottawa store is at the opposed side of the city from me, so I don't get there much. Which is a good thing or I might go broke.

OK Paul, I was being nice for our cold friends up North.  But, yes, I'm wearing shorts in SF East Bay this week and actually mowed the yard this weekend.  Sucks to be cold.
