mrrad, i have a mini wagon with the same motor attached to a 5 speed tranny that i just got running last year. i bought mine as an abandoned project that had sat for years and had a lot of issues to work through. did most of it myself with a lot of talking to SC in the uk. is that lawrence's car that you bought? if you wanted to email me or phone me i would be more than happy to talk to you about it. jim

Not sure but I spent hours talking with Larry about building him a sub frame that would allow him to mount his engine low enough to close the bonnet. I even bought a automatic sub frame and mocked it up before he went silent. While I have not installed a power unit like yours I have done a few minis. My email is in my profile if you have questions. I have a shop in Tidewater VA. Quite a ways south of you. You will want a fully adjustable suspension and the best brakes for your ride. I'm currently trying to wrap up 5 power units and two cars and will need a spring project. I have picked up cars in Sleepy Hollow and north of there. Never happy about the tolls with a trailer. Well you are the man I need to speak too! Lol Like I said I don't have a "problem" per say I really just need a little guidance on something. I would love nothing more than to be able to crank that motor on my own. Do you mind if I emailed you?

First off, welcome to this crazy, sometimes disfunctional place, Conrad.

I'm no professional mechanic, but have a similar engine in my Mini. I built it here in California with Specialist's bits and some direction. It will probably be hard to find a Mini-knowledgeable mechanic that has experience with this conversion on this side of The Pond. Feel free to ask me whatever questions you may have and I'll do my best to help.

I've been trying to sit down and write a detailed version of my build, but retirement has gotten in my way for the last couple of years!

Hey air2air Sorry I did not put what I'm working with. I have a specialist components 16v twincam head in a 1380. It is one of their package deals and I picked up the swap from a guy in nyc who needed some cash. I got a pretty sweet deal which was on par with a rebuilt updated motor from what I've seen out there. It might be something I'll take to a regular performance shop just because I don't feel it's very complicated. Just frustrating to me at times and I'd like someone who is an actual professional who can see the bigger picture. Between overtime at work and planning a wedding I haven't much free time.

The tech across the pond isnt a bad idea

What you've got is a healthy dose of awesome.

Assuming that's the MED twincam and throttle bodies I would ask MED about guys in NY if you haven't already.  That stuff is out of the orbit of your average British car shop, and your average classic mini wrencher - as you likely already know.

Considering the $ you have in there already, and since you're in NY you could even spring for a ticket and ship a bloke over for the weekend.

Given the tremendous tech lead across the pond within the UK mini world - titanium subframes, etc - they're used to building monsters like yours and would think of a lot that most people here are not into.

I'm located in the Bronx i don't have a major problem, I just at a mental block. I took the car apart and am putting it back together, but there are a few custom details I need some insight with, mainly fuel system, alternator and some wiring. I pretty much want to pay someone to get the car running for me being that this is my most invilved project and some things that may stump me, someone else will find it simple.

this is what I got.

MrRaD welcome.  Just as SXSMAN says this is the place.  For extra credit points, I've saved many thousands of $ by describing my problems here and getting the solutions from gurus who know 10X more than any shop.  What's going on with it?

//www.minimania.com/article/3192/Mini_Cooper_Tuners_and_Shops

Top of page under social, below forum (which you found) is tuners and shops by region.

Might find someone in your backyard.

PS You also didn't fill out your profile, it helps to know who and where.
