I once had one registered as an Austin Healy because that was as close as DMV could get

The State of California has the most Classic Mini Clubs out of all the States in the USA. As far as how many Classic Minis total in North America, I'm with Spitz at around 5,000 as I remember specifically hearing this number back in the late eighties early nineties for total amount of Minis presently titled at that time, (actually think that was a USA only figure, but could very well have been North America) Anyway, this figure of 5,000 Minis is as good as gold.           Mini Estate

I know the original question was for CA, US and MX....but I'll guess the entire North American population down to Panama as 5,348 minis and derivetives

They do it through the DMV by registered and SORN (off the road) vehicles in the UK. Because of our privacy laws here and the size of the US compared to the UK i imagine it wouldn't happen.

Wow! I never would have thought those numbers weren't readily available. Figured about 15 of you guys would respond with "Hey Lame-o, everybody knows those numbers are at www.howmanyminis.org! [EDIT: just for the hell of it, I clicked on that link I just made up. It choked my browser]

Well, this is interesting. One can understand from a business-competitor POV why MM wouldn't be interested to share the info they've gathered over the years. Kind of a corporate secret really. But still, it puts an interesting spin on things.

Can anyone think of a way the Mini community could come up with those numbers? It would require some thought and effort—like a coordinated search of registration information for each state & country and whatever you guys call those things you have in Canada.  Wink

Maybe even come up with an algorithm or something; to fill in gaps and predict missing info. An algorithm would be cool.

Does anyone know how many classic Minis are currently "on the road" in the US? Canada? Mexico/South America?
