Despite all of the rules - also - whilst it may be funny - just remember why they renamed the pajero (rest of the world) the montero in the US and South America - its slang in most S American (hispanic) countries for wanker or masturbation. I discovered that when I imported one from South Africa into Uruguay - became quite unplesant sometimes.

cheers

European & Japanese Diesels are NOT to be compared with US Diesels. You guys have really missed the boat when it comes to Diesels. I've NEVER taken any diesel, be it Semi, Pickup, Van or Car to the Test Station and have it fail emissions. They are now introducing Euro 6 Standards, which are very stringent.     I shake my head when I follow Semis on the US Interstates and they are blowing clouds of black smoke out of their exhausts. They would get an automatic GV9 prohibition notice if spotted in Europe. That means they are taken off the road immediately and Towed/Carried to a Workshop where repairs can be effected. There is even a Call Phone number here in UK to report any Commercial, or Private vehicle emitting excessive smoke. Americans who have never driven a small diesel like Peugeots produce would be amazed at the Torque and Economy these cars give.....and they are fast as a Ferret up a drainpipe. Peugeot claim around 60/70mpg on average, with top speeds way in excess of 100 mph. They are also quiet and don't smell. Audi has shown the way by actually winning races with their Diesel cars.

Just curious if they do a smog test on diesels?  What is the standard typically for diesels?

Many states will have an insurmountable problem getting a '90 through emissions.... but those sorts of vehicles are popular with rural mail delivery contractors.... There are numerous 90s Jeep Cherokees in our area that were ordered with right-hand-drive, like the mail jeeps!

I know many find RHD to be a cute novelty in the US. I find it tedious after the novelty wears off, or the first time I try to make a left across traffic, or pull out of a parking space... you know, after about 20 minutes!

Friends are selling a RHD Mitsubishi Pajero (Montero in USA)  It's a 1990 Turbo Diesel Model from Japan. Nice shape.  I want to buy it but the wife is dubious about an older RHD... however....I was pondering it's salability in the USA. given that it is now 25 years old and all. (I have not confirmed build date, but it's an early 1990 by body style)  Is there interest stateside in these? I have video footage of Jeremy Clarkson raving about these cars on Old Top Gear (like that means anything...) Do people drive these down there?  We have tons of them here.
