older Minis with distributors and race cams have huge timing slop.   The cam walks back and forth in the cam chain play, and the distributor spindle tries to walk in and out of the cam if there is any end play at all on the spindle.  The end play is the distance between the end of the distributor mount and the top face of the spindle.  If your racing rules require you to run the clockwork distributor, you should chuck up the distributor mounts in the lathe and take a cut on the backside face, this lets the mount sit deeper in the block to reduce the spindle end play.  But if your rules let you dump the distributor and go to a crank trigger, do it.

Hey,

Have you been able to make any headway on that fabulous machine?  I'll bet it has an interesting history...

Clearly an old GT5 tub car. Current class might be GT Lights. There may be another class it could fit in. I was thinking I'd have the time to build a race car but have sort of given up on that. I have a lot of NOS race parts I won't be using. In the past I have built a number of race trannys for US rolling start racing. I have a complete set Of Jack Knight involute dog gears as well as a set of Swift dog box gears complete with shift forks and lay shaft both sets NOS. Also a selection of Posi CWP ratios and posi units new and used. Reluctant to let go of the dream but need to be realistic. Contact me ( info in profile ) if I can be of help. Steve (CTR)

PS Cool project.

I'll be needing a new engine, who ever blew this one managed to seize all but one of the pistons so it's almost definitely going to need replaced.

I'm located in Houston, Texas but I'm originally from Scotland so I have some sources over there too.

very cool.  Are you looking for a second engine? or going to rebuild yours?

Where are you located also.  Club or mini members near by might be able to help you source parts and with tech stuff.

I"m in the NE.

They're the bits that mount in the block that the spindles are threaded through and the distributor sits on.

There is a collar that bolts to the two holes you can see in the flange (that's face down on the table) that clamps the dizzie in place.

Don't know why there are two differnt models but perhaps you can identify them using the hosts exploded parts catalogue...

Cheers, Ian

I just bought an old Racing Mini with a blown engine from someone at work with the hope to return it to the race track one day, but there were quite a lot of parts just laying around it the cabin can anyone help my identify one of them?

parts

I know the two spindles are the drives for the distributer but what are the bracket looking things?

Thanks in advance!
