A few months back I had my "other"mini in to the dealer for a job I did not feel up to, replacing the knock sensor. This is an 8 hr job to replace a $35 dollar part which requires removal of the supercharger among other things. I had a conversation with the mechanic about potental problem areas in the motor in my 03 JCW S. He idicated this was the first knock sensor he knew of being replaced. He went on to say the timing chain tensioner could very likely cause a problem if the oil changes were made at the factory recomended interval. I indicated I changed the oil at 5k miles and used Shell Rotella 15/40. He said he thought this was an excellent idea to keep the motor alive and well. Just turned over 109k and still going strong.Smile

Sight unseen and with no hard codes - it would be a best bet to check

What else have you done and how many miles etc - are there any codes? - have you checked for continuity inside the COP, is your timing chain right (not stretched).

A cup of gasoline thrown across the interior and a match would send her to her much deserved rest.  Kinda like retiring a flag except the MINI is not a symbol of anything.  BURN BABY BURN!
